  • Hearthstone Mercenaries is fast approaching, with the release date set for October 12, 2021
  • Players are already able to buy the rather pricey card packs containing Diablo, Sylvanas, and the Lich King
  • Mercenaries, bounties, and more will wash over the Hearthstone gameplay, with both PvE and PvP environments coming for the new mode

Hearthstone Mercenaries is Blizzard’s latest foray into the digital card game that promises to completely upend the known gameplay and introduce new and exciting features. In light of this, we beg the question what is the mode going to entail, and when is it going to hit the live server?

New Arrival to the Tavern of Hearthstone

Homely brew and cool modes have become Blizzard’s bread-and-butter in promoting what is arguably the most popular digital card game we have known. Hearthstone has taken the best of the entire World of Warcraft franchise and embedded it neatly into a collectible card game.

Now, though, things seem to have been changing at a rapid pace as Blizzard is planning cross-over appearances with other franchises, adding Diablo, the Lich King, and Sylvanas all to the game. As the announcement went live, fans quickly expressed their disappointment with the pricey additions, arguing that they may be a quick way for Blizzard to make a buck without providing back enough bang first.

Yet, for those of us looking to find out more about the actual game, Hearthstone Mercenaries promises to be something of value. But first, we need to figure out when it’s coming out.

Hearthstone Mercenaries Has a Release Date

Thankfully for those of us who don’t do well with hype and the buildup leading to a launch, Blizzard has set the release date for October 122021. However, Blizzard is already offering early-day access to DiabloSylvanas, and the Lich King packs at the eye-watering $50, which many community members have booed with some vehemence.

A quick trailer to the game introduced Lady Prestor, the World of Warcraft mischievous character who is generally associated with upsetting nature’s balance to concoct some of her evil plans.

To stop her, you will need to hire your own rag-tag band of Mercenaries and put up a fight. Naturally, this will come with a bounty for each successful mission you have accomplished, which brings us to our next point.

Just What on Earth Is Hearthstone Mercenaries Mode?

Of course, Blizzard is in the habit of titling its own games and its pertaining genres. Well, in this case, the company claims that the mode will be predicated on an RPG basis where you bring together your favorite Hearthstone characters to assemble “Parties” of six units.

Your mission will be to track down “Bounties,” which are assigned to you through a “Bounty Board.” Each “Bounty Run” will lead to a “Bounty Boss,” and defeating them would bring you some new loot. The combat will be an interesting tag-team affair as only three of your Mercenaries will take an active part in the fight, with the other three whiling away the time at the back.

The mode will not focus too heavily on PvE, though, and you will have the opportunity to face off against other players in the “Fighting Pit,” it seems. That will come with a leaderboard to further whet your appetite for competitiveness.

Once victorious, you return to your village and deliver a rich bounty where you can upgrade your settlement, put another chalk mark down on your progression board and bask in your newfound glory.

With Mercenaries fast approaching, there is already a lot known about the new characters and abilities. The only downside here is that while most new characters will be obtainable new game, you may only claim Lich King, Sylvanas, and Diablo via a direct purchase at the rather steep $50, which has ruffled fans’ feathers. The full list of official Mercenaries so far has been released, and it’s as follows:
