Blizzard has unveiled news of Hearthstone’s new expansion, which will bring players to the renowned Alterac Valley.
Fractured in Alterac Will Return Players to a Familiar Battleground
A few months after the release of Hearthstone Mercenaries, Blizzard just dropped some fresh news about the upcoming Hearthstone expansion on the official Hearthstone Twitter page. Apparently, the new content drop to the renowned card game will feature Alterac Valley – an important location in the Warcraft lore that is very familiar to World of Warcraft players.
The expansion itself will be appropriately called Fractured in Alterac Valley. To celebrate the announcement, Blizzard released an announcement video that retains the usual humoristic Hearthstone vibe. The atmosphere is further backed by an energetic song, spreading the motivating message of “never falling back.”
From the video, it becomes quite clear that the new expansion will focus on the Alliance, the Horde and a snowy theme. While the previous two expansions, Forged in the Barrens and United in Stormwind, have given individual attention to each of the two warring factions it seems that Fractured in Alterac Valley will instead give some love to both factions and their struggle for control of the icy landscape.
It is highly likely that the cards in the expansion will also be themed after the important characters and events that have taken place in Alterac Valley.
Alterac’s Importance to the Warcraft Community
Alterac Valley is the home of the Frostwolf Clan where Durotan, the father of Thrall, one of the main characters in the series, established a foothold after getting exiled. Because of how the location ties into Thrall’s past, it has become an important place to every lore enthusiast.
Furthermore, Alterac Valley is an important player-versus-player instance in Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft. It is one of the lengthiest and most strategic battlegrounds to date, featuring numerous control points and two fearsome bosses – Drek’Thar who represents the Horde and their defense against the Alliance invaders and Vanndar Stormpike for the Alliance, leading an expedition to conquer Alterac Valley and its valuable resources.
The Fractured in Alterac Valley expansion will release on December 7, bringing a ton of new exciting cards.
