  • Blizzard announces the dates for the Hearthstone 2021 World Championship
  • The lineup of competitors is diverse and features many top players
  • Like last year, this year’s event will be held online

Hearthstone fans rejoice as Blizzard announces the dates for this year’s Hearthstone 2021 World Championship.

Hearthstone World Championship to Be Held in December

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the dates for this year’s Hearthstone World Championship and in a recent Twitter post Blizzard delivered. The Championship will be held from December 18 to 19.

Hearthstone fans have always anticipated the end of the year event with great excitement and Blizzard is determined to make it a memorable occasion for their players, even amidst a global pandemic and misconduct controversies.

The players who qualify for the event will be competing for the half-million-dollar prize pool. Naturally, the better a player performs and the higher they score, the more money they will win.

This Year’s Competitors

It is now clear who the first four of the eight players are going to be. This year’s player roster is quite diverse from players around the globe. The known competitors are:

  • Facundo “Nalguidan” Nahuel Pruzzo (Argentina) – Grandmasters 2021 Season 1, Americas
  • Wataru “Posesi” Ishibashi  (Japan) – Grandmasters 2021 Season 1, Asia-Pacific
  • David “Frenetic” Neila Quiñones (Spain)– Grandmasters 2021 Season 1, Europe
  • Huang “KZGXiaobai” Dehui  (China)– Gold Series, China

The second half of the eight total competitors will be decided from future tournaments. The champions for the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe will be decided after the Grandmasters 2021 Season 2, which will conclude on October 10. The final competitor will be the player who wins China’s Gold Series championship, which is scheduled to end in early November.

Is The Pandemic Going to Hinder the Event?

The short answer is: unfortunately, yes. Like the previous year, this event will also be an online affair, much to the chagrin of everyone involved. Fans speculated that as the world starts opening up more and more, this event will be held LAN in a physical venue.

Earlier, Blizzard Publisher of Esports Eric Elliot confirmed on Twitter that the event will be held online just like in 2020. There were, however, talks in Blizzard to hold a proper in-person event. However, the company decided against it.

Hopefully, next year we will be seeing more live events. We are still waiting for further information Blizzard will release regarding this current event.
