Hearthstone is planning a new mode with Mercenaries arriving in October to introduce yet new mechanics to the game.
Hearthstone Adds New Gameplay Mode
Blizzard’s blockbuster card game Hearthstone is adding a new and exciting mode called Mercenaries, which will push the envelope and create a brand new experience within the game. Inspired by the Warcraft franchise, this turn-based RPG will put players in control of Mercenary characters competing in teams in PvP and PvE modes.
Mercenaries is coming out on October 12 and details already look promising. Each player will start with eight Mercenary characters and a home Village. The Village will allow players to configure their characters and base as well as send squads off grunting and generating various bounty rewards.
There will be competitive matches against other players, too, with a total of 50 Mercenaries to pick from. All the characters span the World of Warcraft universe, including Lich King, Sylvanas, and bizarrely Diablo, the namesake villain in Blizzard’s RPG game.
Mercenaries will be further sub-divided into sub-types such as Fighter, Caster, and Protector. Players will be able to venture into battles and pick the actions they want to do. The main thing here is that much of the action is automated and it feels like Hearthstone’s Battlegrounds mode meets Tavern Brawl.
Fighting Out of a Tight Spot
This is an exciting out-of-the-box innovation by the company which is determined to push past an unfortunate spell in its history as mounting pressure continues to weigh Activision Blizzard down. Blizzard is facing multiple lawsuits alleging misdemeanor and sexual assault against female employees. The matter is so serious that the survival of the Call of Duty and Overwatch League is at stake and Blizzard’s iconic franchises are facing serious challenges.
World of Warcraft dipped below 2 million players according to Asmongold who shared the news in a video, citing another source. The matter has grown so serious over the past months that some people have worriedly suggested that if this continues, Blizzard would reach a point where it might not be able to sustain its groundbreaking and genre-defining franchises.
