The Winklevoss twins and Gen.G have come together to spearhead a new educational series to bring cryptocurrency knowledge to esports fans.
Gemini and Gen.G Spearhead Crypto Education
The world of blockchain and cryptocurrencies has a lot to offer to esports, especially when you consider the fact that gamers tend to be tech-savvy individuals with plenty of disposable income.
Gen.G is putting this to a test by teaming up with crypto platform Gemini and starting the GEMINI AMONG US initiative, a live stream event that will try to educate spectators as to what cryptocurrencies really are.
The first episode was broadcast yesterday and the segment broadcast was called “Among Us,” featuring Gemini founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss who were joined by a number of other personalities including Kelsey Dangerous, Tina Raes and Griffin Johnson.
The speakers talked about NFTs, cryptocurrencies, and more, discussing the rapid implementation of blockchain technology in everyday lives. Gemini CEO Tyler Winklevoss welcomed the partnership opportunity, and explained:
“Crypto holders are more than twice as likely to have a gaming subscription so we are excited to partner with Gen.G on this fun event, while we learn about the gaming universe and explore topics like crypto, NFTs, and how all these ecosystems overlap.”
Gemini invited viewers to join the platform, trade $100 worth of crypto and become eligible for a $20 bonus.
Engaging Esports Fans through Crypto
Gen.G COO Arnold Hur welcomed the partnership and said that the organization had been looking for ways to introduce cryptocurrencies to the gaming community in a fun and accessible way.
“There’s still a lot of misunderstanding about how this stuff actually works, so we are launching this activation to engage both the gaming and cryptocurrency community to be able to interact and learn more about this industry,” Hur said.
In January, Tyler wrote a short blog post on Gemini’s official website, arguing that the non-fungible token or NFT economy will be taking the world of esports by a storm.
Digital art collectors have already been seduced by it, but if there is one realm in which the NFT can reign supreme that is esports. The ecosystem is perfectly tailored to tempt its audiences into buying various collectibles and digital goods that they can wear as badge of honor.
After all, we are already ponying up for Dota 2 Battle Passes, so why not use the NFT to distribute tournament trophies, achievements and more? For now, though, Gemini is taking it easy, introducing cryptocurrency to esports fans discretely, and without rushing into it.
Video gamers know better than to jump the gun and endorse something, unless they see the value in it.
