Two Korean Teams Have Secured Spots at the Wild Rift Global Championship Icons

in Gaming
April 19, 2022
  • KT Rolster and Kwangdong Freecs are the first teams to secure a spot at the Wild Rift Global Championship Icons
  • The teams will clash over the champion’s title at the Wild Rift Champions Korea on April 24
  • The winner will go to the Global Championship’s group stage, while the second and third placing teams will qualify for the play-in stage

KT Rolster and Kwangdong Freecs are the first teams to secure spots at the Wild Rift Global Championship Icons. The teams will now fight for the first place at the WCK Spring grand finals.

KT Rolster and Kwangdong Freecs to Head to the Global Championship

The Wild Rift Champions Korea Spring season is reaching its culmination. The event’s semi-finals have just concluded, sending KT Rolster and Kwangdong Freecs directly to the grand finals. As the three top-placing teams from Wild Rift Champions Korea are sure to secure a spot at the Wild Rift Global Championship Icons, KT Rolster and Freecs are sure to go to the event, regardless of the result of the upcoming match.

The semifinal saw KT Rolster defeat T1. While the former team placed first in the group stage, it won the semifinals match by the skin of its teeth. On the contrary, Freecs didn’t have much trouble decimating Team GP and easily advanced to the grand finals. While both KT Rolster and Freecs have their sports at Wild Rift Global Championship Icons secured, this isn’t the case for Team GP and T1. The latter two will have to fight to the last breath for a shot at the upcoming international event.

Only the First Team Will Go to the Group Stage

Despite both teams having secured their spots at the Wild Rift Global Championship Icons, only the top-placing team will head directly to the Icons group stage. The teams who place second and third will only get to go to the Icons Play-in stage.

Furthermore, there is a difference in the monetary prizes the teams will get. Here is how the event’s prize pool will be distributed among the top players:

  • 1st place – $24,385
  • 2nd place – $16,257
  • 3rd place – $13,005
  • 4th place – $10,567

The match between T1 and Team GP is scheduled to take place on April 23, followed by the grand on the day after.
