Sakurai Thanked Everyone Involved

The Nintendo Switch hit Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is nearing the end of its regular updates. It was announced that the final character added to the famous crossover fighter title will be Sora from the beloved Kingdom Hearts series.

While it’s sort of unfortunate that the game will not be receiving any more updates, the game’s creator and director, Masahiro Sakurai, is glad by how successful Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has become. Sakurai is delighted to have been able to go so far together with his team and entertain millions of fans across the globe.

At the end of the game’s official support, Sakurai wanted to thank everyone who’s been involved with the creation of the game, most importantly the various franchise creators who have let him use their characters for the crossover title.

“Every single fighter has their own developer, stakeholder, game world, and fans. Being entrusted to develop a game using those fighters has been a special experience and a true honor. I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone. Thank you very much,” Sakurai concluded.

The Game’s Impressive Numbers

Finally, as a sign of appreciation to the game’s fervent community, Sakurai has shared some of the official statistics about the game and how big it has become. It was revealed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been played for over 2.2 billion hours and has seen over 19 billion battles (11.7 billion online and about 7.8 billion offline).

Since getting released on December 7, 2018, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has grown to have 89 different playable characters, 1,496 spirits, 116 battle stages, 140 costumes for the Mii characters, 201 items, and over 1,100 soundtracks.

In total, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features characters, spirits, and imagery from over 450 different games. About 2,200 characters have some representation in the game, either as playable characters or spirits.

The final DLC of the spectacular game will go live on October 18 and will see the release of Sora. Sora will be included in the Fighters Pass’ second volume, alongside several already released characters such as Min Min (Arms), Steve and Alex (Minecraft), Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII), Pyra and Mythra (Xenoblade Chronicles), and Kazuya (Tekken).
