Riot Capped 180M Monthly Runeterra Players and Announced RiotX Arcane Event

  • Riot Games has reached 180 monthly players across its Runeterra-based titles
  • To celebrate the occasion and the upcoming release of the Arcane TV series, the company will be launching a new event
  • RiotX Arcane is marketed as a “cross-media collision of everything Riot has to offer”

Riot Games announced a RiotX Arcane project just as it marked a milestone of 180 monthly players across League of Legends and the other Runeterra titles.

Riot Games Reached 180M Monthly Players

Riot Games has marked a record fan engagement as its Runeterra-based titles have reached 180 monthly players in total, the video game company announced yesterday on Twitter. The aforementioned number includes the popular MOBA League of Legends, its mobile version, Wild Rift, the card game Legends of Runeterra and the auto battler Teamfight Tactics.

Although League of Legends remains as Riot’s main focus, the company’s side projects have also enjoyed great success. The once small game has now grown to be an entire fictional universe with various spin-offs, an expansive community, tons of fan content, live events, esports competitions and so on.

Riot Games has grown to be a brand name synonymous will well-polished gaming products, which is further attested by VALORANT’s success. One of the company’s strengths is its willingness to experiment. While most big companies fear innovation as it usually entitles some risk, Riot has fearlessly explored almost every big gaming genre there is.

The company has its famous MOBA League of Legends, it has got shooters covered with VALORANT, has explored the possibilities of mobile games with Wild Rift and has even tried its luck at a card game with Legends of Runeterra. Riot even has an MMORPG and a fighting game that are currently in the works. While not much is known about the latter two, the company has shown clear intentions on putting as many resources and talent are needed to make them successful while keeping the beloved Riot flair.

Tons of New Content to Celebrate the Occasion and the Release of Arcane

Riot Games followed the announcement of its 180 million monthly Runeterra players milestone with an announcement of a new project called RiotX Arcane. Arcane, of course, refers to the upcoming animation series, set in the Runeterra universe.

Described as a “cross-media collision of everything Riot has to offer,” RiotX will celebrate the release of Arcane by hosting various events for Riot’s games and providing the players with exciting promotional content. Even VALORANT players will be getting new collectibles, a battle pass and even a new agent.

Nicolo Laurent, chief executive of Riot, spoke about the event in an interview with DotEsports:

“Today, there are more players enjoying our games worldwide than ever before, validating our confidence in the League of Legends IP as we begin a new era with the launch of Arcane,” he said.

Laurent added that Riot’s main goal is to establish gaming as the “center of global entertainment.”
