Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Becomes Fastest Selling Nintendo Game Ever

in Gaming
November 25, 2022
  • The newest Pokémon game breaks the record for fastest selling Pokémon title
  • It has already sold more than 10 million copies, Nintendo announced
  • Scarlet and Violet is on its way to becoming the most-sold Pokémon game ever

Despite the many issues players faced on launch day, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has surpassed 10 million sold copies in just three days.

Scarlet and Violet Breaks a Record

The newest iteration of the Pokémon games, Scarlet and Violet, launched on November 18, and although it’s been less than a week, the game has already broken a huge record. As announced by the company itself, the newest Pokémon title sold more than 10 million copies in just the first three days since its release.

“Pokémon Scarlett and Violet for Nintendo Switch, which was released simultaneously worldwide on November 18, 2022, has sold more than 10 million units worldwide (including 4.05 million units sold in Japan) in the first three days after its release,” Nintendo’s announcement read. “This is the highest-ever global and domestic sales of all Nintendo game console software, including Nintendo Switch, in the first three days after launch!”

With such fast gains being made, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Scarlet and Violet becomes not only the fastest-selling Pokémon game of all time but also the most sold. That title is currently owned by Pokémon Red, Green & Blue, the very first Pokémon title released way back in 1996 for the Game Boy, with its original 151 first-generation monsters. That game stands at 31.05 million copies sold but considering Scarlet and Violet already surpassed a third of that in less than a week, it would not be surprising for it to take away Red, Green & Blue’s title.

Scarlet and Violet Is Popular despite Its Bugs

What’s more fascinating about the broken record is that Scarlet and Violet managed to achieve this despite the ton of issues the game has. It’s been somewhat of a negative trend in the past few years for developers to release games with tons of issues. These include popular franchises like CoD whose’s Modern Warfare II was plagued by bugs on launch day.

It seems Nintendo also couldn’t escape that trend and fans have been complaining about severe performance drops on the Nintendo Switch. Fans often experience significant framerate drops and some players have even found more severe visual issues during their playthroughs, such as invisible Pokémon battles and world clipping.

These problems have led to a relatively bad for Pokémon games 64% rating, according to IGN. However, a fully open-world Pokémon game was quite ambitious, and given the limited hardware capabilities of the Nintendo Switch, it might take some more time for the company to fix these issues.
