Dreamhack unveiled the Dreamhack Atlanta Magic Showdown – a NA regional tournament in Magic: The Gathering coming in November.

Dreamhack Announced the Dreamhack Atlanta Magic Showdown

The event organizer Dreamhack will host the inaugural regional tournament of Magic: The Gathering’s new competitive format. The championship will be called Dreamhack Atlanta Magic Showdown and is scheduled to take place between November 18 and 20 this year.

The best MTG players in the region will clash for a share of the $130,000 prize poll and a shot at the higher-level MTG events such as the Pro Tour and World Championship. Some of the players will be invited to smaller events with more modest prize pools of $10,000.

The Dreamhack Atlanta Magic Showdown will use the Pioneer format. It will have a similar schedule to previous competitive MTG events. On Friday, November 18, players can participate in last chance qualifiers to secure a spot in the event. On the following day, nine Swiss rounds will determine the top players. On Sunday, the best eight players will participate in single-elimination playoffs.

The event will see the best 2 players get direct invitations for 2023’s World Championship. The top 48 players, on the other hand, will get invited to the first Pro Tour in 2023. This will be the last year where 48 players from the regional championship get invited to the Pro Tour. Starting next year, only the best 32 will receive invites.

More Competitive MTG Events Are on the Way

There will be a plethora of smaller MTG events sprinkled across 2022 and 2023. Some three-day tournaments will have a convention aspect to them as well. The latter will be open to the broader MTG community and will also feature merchandise vendors and community artists. Each day a smaller tournament with a $10,000 prize pool will be hosted. MTG will also see the Command Zone make a return for all lovers of the Commander format.

Dreamhack Magic has planned a three-day tournament that will begin on June 3 this year. Other than a main $10,000 tournament, Dreamhack will host numerous smaller side competitions. This event will celebrate the release of Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate.
