  • Season 14 of League of Legends introduced numerous new items
  • One of these is Stromsurge, which makes Fizz an incredibly OP champion
  • He will likely receive big nerfs with the following patch next week

Despite receiving nerfs recently, Fizz still holds an impressive 53% win rate thanks to the new Stormsurge item.

Fizz Climbs the Meta

We are less than a week into the start of Season 14 of League of Legends and players are still adjusting to the many changes that came with its launch on January 10. Among these is a revamping of many items as well as the addition of new ones that have a huge impact on the current meta.

Stormsurge is one such new item that has been talked about a lot in the community for the fact that it works so well with Fizz. In fact, when the Tidal Trickster uses it, he becomes rather overpowered, which has, understandably, caused many to ask Riot for nerfs. Interestingly, the company did so in their Patch 14.1B, which rolled out on January 12, but it seems this hasn’t had the desired effect.

Despite the nerfs, Fizz still has an impressive 53,53% win rate according to the stats tracking website Of course, this has also led to him amassing a huge 27.9% ban rate, purely because he is so dominant in the meta currently. All of this is thanks to the fact that a Fizz equipped with the new Stormsurge item can deal a whopping 35% of an enemy’s health as damage to them. Players can also deal additional damage if they apply the passive Squall to an enemy.

Not only that but if a target dies before the Squall damage is applied, surrounding enemies will be targeted. Combining the Stromsurge with the fact that Fizz already deals quite a bit of damage, the game is made unbearable for enemy players. Interestingly, the League of Legends champion had a rather mediocre performance last season, a far cry from the domination he is exhibiting now.

If you’re interested in trying this strategy, your best bet is to open with Doran’s Ring before immediately building out the Stormsurge for the extra damage and AP. From there it’s a focus on more damage and movement speed with Sorcerer’s Shoes and Lich Bane. To add some extra AP and survivability, you can use more standard items like Void Staff, Rabadon’s Deathcap, and Zhonya’s Hourglass.

You would likely want to hurry if you want to try this Fizz build as it’s highly likely he, and other Stormsurge-friendly champions like Twisted Fate, Kennen, and Rumble, will be hit with a wave of nerfs in the upcoming Patch 14.2, which is being released on January 24.
