Intel Ceases Shipments to Russia but Will Support Its Local Workers

in Gaming
April 8, 2022
  • Intel has pulled back from Russia, refusing to ship products to the country until the war in Ukraine has been stopped
  • The company has vowed to take care of its 1,200 workers in Russia while the business remains halted
  • Intel has joined a growing roster of companies that have sanctioned Russia in one way or another

Intel announced that it has shut down its business in Russia and Belarus and will refuse to deal with the two countries for as long they continue their bloody rampage in Ukraine.

Intel Pulls Back from Russia and Belarus

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has led yet another company to leave the Russian market. The one packing its bags this time is the multinational tech firm Intel. This move has been long brewing as the company had started to scale back its business in Russia and Belarus in February.

Intel has suspended all business operations in Russia.

According to Intel’s official statement on its website, the company joins the global community in condemnation of aggression. The tech giant appealed for a quick resolution of the conflict and a swift return to peace. Until peace has been restored, the company will suspend all shipments to Russia.

Intel and its competitor AMD began to sanction Russia immediately after the war erupted. Despite their differences and past grievances, both companies stopped shipping products to the country and its ally, Belarus.

The Company Will Support Its Employees While Business is Halted

Intel added that it is deeply concerned about how the war will affect the civilians in the warring region:

“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by this war, particularly the people of Ukraine and the surrounding countries and all those around the world with family, friends and loved ones in the region.”

To show that it cares about its workers, Intel is also working to support all of its employees, including those in Russia where its business has been halted. The company promised to take care of all 1,200 of them while also proceeding with the sanctions. Intel will also focus on maintaining its global business undisrupted despite pulling back from Russia.

By refusing to serve the Russian market, Intel joins a long and growing list of big tech and gaming companies that have either scaled down their businesses in the country or have halted it completely. Some of those include Nintendo, Sony, EA, Microsoft, and Epic Games, among others. Certain companies, including esports teams and influential gaming personalities, have been launching fundraisers for humanitarian relief in Ukraine.
