Heirloom Shards Will Be Back in Apex’s 2023 Anniversary Event, Leak Suggests

in Gaming
January 30, 2023
  • Heirlooms are one of the game’s rarest items
  • Recent leak suggests the game’s fourth-year anniversary might bring back Heirloom shards
  • They are used to acquire specific Heirlooms more easily

According to a French content creator testing Apex’s fourth-anniversary event, Heirloom shards will return to the game in February.

Creator Leaks Heirloom Shards Return

Popular games often need a large contingent of people working directly on them or any secondary attributes, to bring said games to the masses. But sometimes that brings with itself a higher chance of leaking important information, and Apex Legends is not immune to that phenomenon.

Last month already saw several reports surrounding new content that will allegedly come to the game, including a rumored Apex class system. But as the new year rolls on and Apex is coming closer to its fourth-year anniversary, new leaks suggest that the time-limited event celebrating it will see the return of Heirloom shards.

The information comes from French content creator ExoMadara, who on January 27 shared a screenshot of the event they apparently tested before its release. According to it, Heirloom shards can be obtained from event boxes.

“For your information, if you're emptying your bank account to buy the PK skin from the last Apex event and you're eyeing an already released Heirloom or Prestige, you might regret it for the anniversary event as the start of Season 16,” the content creator’s tweet reads.

This is welcome news for players who want to collect Heirlooms. They are some of the rarest and most valuable items in Apex, thus are incredibly challenging to collect. They have a very low chance of appearing in loot boxes, so the best opportunity players have to collect them is by completing time-limited events that showcase a new Heirloom.

This is where Heirloom shards come to the rescue. They were introduced during the last Anniversary event in Apex and made acquiring full Heirlooms much easier. If the leak is true, players will be able to get more of them and collect whichever Heirloom they want. This gives players a greater amount of flexibility compared to before when they had to collect just the one showcased explicitly.

Heirloom shards can additionally be obtained by buying them using the game’s currencies. If the leak turns out to be true, players would be wise to save their resources to secure the rare item. Apex Legends’ fourth-anniversary event starts on February 22.
