  • It features a battle royal called Last Spartan Standing, as well as King of the Hill, and Land Grab modes
  • The new season called “Lone Wolves” starts on May 3

After months of being berated by fans, 343 Industries is making a huge attempt to redeem itself by releasing three new game modes in Halo Infinite’s second season “Lone Wolves”.

New Gamemodes Are Coming for Halo Infinite’s Second Season

Halo Infinite is almost six months old now, and to say the game had a bumpy ride would be an understatement. Although the game’s core gameplay features, mechanics, and graphics were well-liked, players often found many other points about the game they did not enjoy. These include the very limited number of maps and game modes at the game’s launch, customization options being hidden behind paywalls, the game’s “broken” matchmaking system, and many others.

343 Industries has been somewhat slow to address all these issues, earning the player base’s criticism, however, the company now wants to change things drastically for the better with the launch of Infinite’s Season 2. The company has already given an overview of what the “Lone Wolves” season will have, and 343 has recently given more detail on the matter.

Three new game modes are coming to Halo Infinite with the launch of the new season on May 3. These are King of the Hill, Land Grab, and a battle royal mode called Last Spartan Standing.

What Are These Modes Exactly?

Long-time Halo players will be familiar with King of the Hill. It’s a fan favorite and now it returns, albeit with some changes. 343 Industries community writer Alex Wakeford described it in a new blog post, saying that two teams will have to compete for control of a single point at the central hill of the map.

“When a player enters the hill uncontested, it is captured and begins earning 1 point per second into a capture bar,” Wakeford explained. “When a team’s capture bar is full, they score 1 point and a new hill spawns somewhere else on the map.”

The writer described the Land Grab mode as a map with three neutral points. When a team captures one of them, it is locked and gives that team one point. When all zones are captured, there is an intermission before 3 new neutral zones spawn. The winning team is the one that scores 11 points first.

The last mode coming to Infinite is Last Spartan Standing, which is in effect 343 Industries’ answer to battle royal multiplayer. In the past multiple professional players have stated Halo needs a battle royal mode to stay relevant in today’s market.

Wakeford explained that this mode will be a free-for-all 12-player experience. It will be played on Big Team Battle maps and each participant will have a confined loadout and 5 respawns. “Once a player runs out of respawns and can no longer participate, they can either spectate or leave the match without penalty,” Wakeford explained. “If a player gets a kill in the match, they can upgrade to a different weapon — something players of “Escalation Slayer” will no doubt be familiar with. The match ends when there is just one Spartan left standing.”
