ESL Gaming and Qualcomm Launch a Mobile Esports League

in Gaming
March 9, 2022
  • Processor company Qualcomm partnered with ESL Gaming for new mobile esports tournaments
  • There will be a total prize pool of $2 million
  • The new deal will give Qualcomm immense reach in a lot of ESL Gaming’s tournaments

The mobile gaming world just got bigger after ESL Gaming struck a deal with processor company Qualcomm to run a mobile gaming league.

ESL Gaming and Qualcomm Strike a Deal

The last couple of years have seen a large rise in mobile gaming popularity, with eight crossing more than $1 billion in revenue in 2021. To capitalize on this rapidly growing market, the esports tournament organizer ESL Gaming has forged a partnership with Qualcomm, a processor company, to create a mobile gaming league, named the Snapdragon Pro Series.

The league will have three tiers of competition – Open, Challenge, and Masters – with a combined prize pool of about $2 million at stake. The Snapdragon Pro Series will hold tournaments in North America, Europe, the Middle East, China, North Africa, and Asia-Pacific, so it’s safe to say it will quickly conquer the whole world.

“The rapid rise of mobile esports is well-documented, and we’re incredibly proud of the role ESL has played in that to date,” said Rodrigo Samwell, the CCO of ESL Gaming. He added that ESL’s collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and its Snapdragon brand will elevate their mobile ecosystem to its fullest potential. “We’re excited to transform the future of mobile esports for players and fans around the world, continuing to create a world where everybody can be somebody,” Samwell concluded.

Qualcomm Expands into Mobile Gaming

One might wonder what a chip company would do in the mobile esports market. However, considering Qualcomm is one of the world’s leading wireless technology innovators, and a driving force behind the development, launch, and expansion of 5G, it’s easy to see they might want to use the tournament series to leverage Snapdragon-powered devices.

“Qualcomm Technologies is all-in on gaming,” said the senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Qualcomm Technologies Don McGuire. In a statement by the company, McGuire explained that Snapdragon Elite Gaming has led the industry across mobile gaming technology. He further explained that this new partnership the “Snapdragon Pro Series will be an important additional pillar of our comprehensive gaming strategy allowing us to build category leadership in mobile esports globally.”

By partnering with ESL Gaming, which is the world’s largest esports and gaming lifestyle company, Qualcomm will have access to high-profile, branded international leagues and tournaments under the ESL Pro Tour, including ESL One, Intel Extreme Masters, DreamHack Masters, and ESL Pro League. This is surely going to massively extend Qualcomm’s global reach.
