DUX Gaming Joins the NBA 2K League with a Mexican Team

in Gaming
September 30, 2021
  • DUX Gaming will be joining the NBA 2K League with a team based in Mexico
  • This team will be the second team ever outside of the United States and Canada
  • As such, it will have the responsibility of pioneering the 2K League in the Latin American country

Spanish organization DUX Gaming has entered the expanding NBA 2K League with a Mexico-based roster.

DUX Gaming Joins the Expanding NBA 2K League

Spanish esports organization DUX Gaming is launching an NBA 2K League roster in Mexico. This will be Mexico’s first presence in the digital basketball competition and the second NBA 2K League team ever that is headquartered outside of the United States and Canada.

According to Sports Business Journal, the slot in the league cost around $25 million.

DUX Gaming’s new virtual basketball team will be the 24th contender in the NBA 2K League. It’s going to be based in a yet unspecified city in Mexico and will have Rafael “RafaelTGR” Garcera Rodrigo serve as its general manager.

DUX Gaming’s chief executive officer, Mario Fernández, feels honored to be able to expand the European organization to Latin America and the NBA 2K League

“We can’t wait to work with Brendan and the entire NBA 2K League team to build our fanbase in Mexico and expand their audience to Latin America with the hope that everyone, especially Spanish speakers, will join the infinite club,” Fernández said.

Brendan Dohoue is the president of the NBA 2K League. He welcomed DUX Gaming, congratulated their growth, and said that he’s thrilled to have them represent Mexico in the digital league.

“DUX Gaming has a demonstrated track record of growing its fan base in new and creative ways which makes it an ideal partner to help the NBA 2K League successfully expand to Latin America, where basketball and 2K are already incredibly popular,” Dohoue said.

More to be Revealed Soon

Little is known about DUX Gaming’s new team. Its official name, lineup, logo, and home city are yet to be announced. The team is one of the pioneers of the NBA 2K League outside of the United States and Canada. The only other team that is based outside of the aforementioned countries is the Shanghai-based Chinese team Gen.G Tigers.

DUX Gaming’s team now has the responsible task of popularizing NBA, the 2K League, and esports in its local community and across all Mexico. It will do so through various content activations with esteemed DUX athletes and content creators from the organization’s other teams. It has also planned to host several local grassroots-level events that aim to familiarize and inspire local fans.

The National Basketball League as a whole has seen steady growth in Latin America. Recently the Capitanes de Ciudad de México joined NBA’s minor league or the G League as it’s known.
