- Blizzard announces cancelation of BlizzConline 2022
- In a post on their page, the company explains the reasons behind this decision
- Blizzard wants to reinvent the future events
Sad news for Blizzard fans as the company announces that BlizzConline 2022 is canceled in order to “progress development” for upcoming games.
Blizzard Cancels BlizzConline 2022
Amidst troubled times for Blizzard, the company announces that BlizzConline 2022 will not be held. The event was supposed to happen in February next year. Fans expected more news on titles like Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, and more. Instead on October 26, they received the regretful news that the event will be canceled.
The news came in a post on Blizzard’s official page, entitled Reimagining BlizzConline. In it, the company wrote they stopped planning for the event. The reason stated was that Blizzard wants to divert more resources to developing already existing projects like the previously mentioned games, and potentially as of yet unannounced titles like the game with a codename “Iris”.
“At this time, we feel the energy it would take to put on a show like this is best directed towards supporting our teams and progressing development of our games and experiences,” Blizzard wrote.
In their newsletter, the company also wrote that it wants to “reimagine” itself and reimagine what a future BlizzConline might look like. “Whatever the event looks like in the future, we also need to ensure that it feels as safe, welcoming, and inclusive as possible,” Blizzard wrote. The company added that it is committed to continuing the dialog with the players and that it wishes future BlizzConline events to play a big role in this.
The Future of BlizzConline
The company also wrote that despite the cancellation of the event in February, it will still post updates in the near future.
BlizzCon has always been a place for fans to meet up in real life and hang out. That being said it was also a place where former controversial employees hung out at the, as Kotaku says, the infamous Cosby Suite. Perhaps the company wants to deal with the negative connotations of some of its past conventions before continuing the long yearly tradition that began 16 years ago.
Despite some fans being disappointed by the cancellation, there is still a possibility that BlizzConline 2022 will still happen, just maybe later in the year. Blizzard also reassured fans that they will still announce game updates, just not in a convention setting.
