  • Electronic Arts announces big growth in the fourth quarter of 2022’s fiscal year
  • A lot of that growth and generated revenue comes from Apex Legends
  • EA hopes that the release of the game’s mobile version will continue the franchise’s growth

More than three years after it was first released, Electronic Art’s Apex Legends is still bringing in huge profits, only expected to grow.

EA Reports Strong Growth

With its fast gameplay, unique art style, and interesting heroes, Electronic Art’s battle royal FPS title Apex Legends has become one of the world’s most recognizable and played games. Subsequently, the game has made huge profits for EA, which are expected to grow even more.

This information comes from the company’s CFO Chris Suh, who reported to investors that Apex continues to deliver mind-boggling gains for EA. According to the data released, Apex Legends has now passed the $2 billion mark in total earnings, all of this money made in just the three years since the game’s release in February 2019.

“EA delivered profitable growth in FY22, a record year in every important measure of our business: total players, engagement in our games and live services, net bookings, and underlying profit,” the report reads. “We grew our global network of players to more than 580 million unique active accounts, fueled by new players joining titles including EA SPORTS FIFA, Apex Legends, and The Sims, and new players that we welcomed from our acquisitions.”

Apex’s Popularity Grows

This growth seems not only to be continuing but even speeding up. According to Suh’s report, the last fiscal year saw revenue from Apex Legends go up by 40% compared to the year before. The game’s Season 12 was also viewed as the game’s “most successful ever”, and executives expect the Apex franchise will eventually be able to make one billion dollars per year.

This goal would be greatly aided by the mobile version of the game, aptly named Apex Legends Mobile. It is expected to be released sometime this year, and it is currently undergoing a preregistration campaign, which has already seen over 12 million users register.

Although Season 12 was dubbed Apex Legend’s most successful year, it builds on the popularity of the game’s previous Seasons 9 and 10, which broke records. This latest fiscal report required investors to make do with a more nebulous measure of success for the game’s most recent season.

However, EA’s leading management still thinks the game will continue its growth and relies on that the release of Apex Legends Mobile will greatly increase the franchise’s popularity.
