Fortnite players will now be able to watch the RLCS Winter Major inside the game thanks to a new partnership between 404FNC and FiveWalnut.

Fortnite Will Host Watch Parties

Every new Fortnite update brings something unexpected to the game. Features like the Creative Mode let players build maps and invent game modes. It also becomes the place where Epic Games can show off collaborations and interesting new features. The most recent update to the Creative Mode allows the hosting of watch parties for esports competitions and introduces Rocket League Live.

404FNC and FiveWalnut came together to create the Championship Field, Fortnite announced on Twitter yesterday. Players will now be able to watch the Rocket League Championship Series from March 23 to 27 on the field.

“Pick a team to root for, play in awesome mini-games around the arena, and fill up your Boost Meter to unlock new items and abilities!” wrote Fortnite in a follow-up tweet. The account later teased that there will be more esports moments as Rocket League Live evolves throughout the RLCS season. “This is only the beginning.” Fortnite wrote.

How to Watch the RLCS in Fortnite

To watch the Rocket League Live, players must ensure they log in to Fortnite and drop into the Legendary Champions Field. When they’re at the field built by 404FNC team and FiveWalnut, they can pick a team to support and also play mini-games in the arena. By filling up their boost meter, players will also be able to get new items and abilities.

Asides from this, the Rocket League Live experience will evolve throughout the RLCS season, adding new features to better reflect the series’ events. This is not the first collaboration between Psyonix, Rocket League’s developers, and Epic Games, but it is the first time players can watch one game while inside another.

Speaking of the RLCS Winter Major, it features 16 teams competing for the $300 000 prize pool. It’s the first LAN event since the Season 8 World Championship to feature a live crowd. It will have an in-house audience on March 26 and 27, taking place at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, California.

This is not the first time Fortnite hosts a live event like this. The game has before hosted events like film build-up shows and concerts from top artists, gathering millions of players through partnering with brands and organizations. More integration of competition broadcasts into Fortnite will boost set competition’s viewers, as well as help Fortnite evolve beyond its battle royal roots.
