F1 2020’s New Women-only Qualifier

As esports grow and strife to cover wider demographics, Formula 1 announces plans for an F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard event in F1 2020. As the name implies, it will be exclusive for women. The event will serve as a qualifier for the upcoming Pro Exhibition.

The F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard is set to take place in the first week of May. It will be a competition. The best performing racer will go directly to the Pro Exhibition later in May this year.

The Pro Exhibition itself is an event where new esports enthusiasts may prove their mettle to the established professional F1 teams. It’s a scouting ground of sorts and will give players a chance to find a team and compete at the 2021 Pro Championship. Moreover, it’s an opportunity for teams to find new talents, fill in gaps, make changes, refresh and build rosters and so on.

Both the F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard and the Pro Exhibition events will be streamed live on Formula 1’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.

Formula 1’s Road to a More Diverse Community

Formula 1 has its W Series that is focused on women in racing but is now taking steps towards making its esports side more inclusive and diverse as well. Until now, there hasn’t been a professional woman player in the F1 Esports Series, and Formula 1 confirmed that it is looking to change that. The Women’s Wildcard will be a good step in that direction. Formula 1 makes as a part of the WeRaceAsOne initiative.

Games have always been about fun, no matter how competitive they may get. It’s a nice gesture on Formula 1’s side to try and make the F1 2020 game and its professional leagues more accessible and appealing to all players. Numerous esports organizations have been following that same philosophy. Earlier this year, Riot announced its Game Changers initiative, and several women-only teams like CLG Red and TSM’s new roster were quick to form.
