Fnatic AD carry Upset broke the silence and shared how he feels about the whole drama surrounding his sudden leave.

Upset Speaks Up

Fnatric’s AD carry, Elias “Upset” Lipp, has finally broken the silence surrounding the emergency leave that saw him depart from the team right before the League of Legends World Championship 2021. Although he didn’t specify his reasons for leaving, he did share his point of view.

The player began by thanking those who supported him and mentioning that all the hateful comments he received had really hurt him. He continued that leaving the team in a time of need and then coming to terms with the players, the management and the fans has been difficult but he is thankful that his peers were ultimate understanding and lent him their support.

Upset continued by explaining that he did share details of his personal matters with head coach Jakob “YamatoCannon” Mebdi and Fnatic’s general manager Javier “Dardo” Zafra but asked them to not let matters remain private.

“Some things are just so awful that they warrant this level of confidentiality, and I never have or ever will violate the privacy of my loved ones,” Upset clarified.

The player added that he had informed his teammates that he has been impacted by severe family issues in the weeks prior to Worlds. However, it wasn’t until the night before his departure that the situation had taken a turn for much worse, forcing Upset to urgently return home.

“I have always been transparent about the severity of the suffering my family was going through,” he said.

Upset concluded by saying that he’s proud to be on Fnatic and hopes that the team will have a fantastic season.

How Upset’s Leave Upset His Fans

When Upset left, Fnatic was left with no choice but to field a substitute. As a result, the team had an unexciting Worlds run, finishing with a 1-5 record.

Fans were bewildered by Upset’s sudden leave and many besmirched his decision. Some were outraged not so much by the fact that he left since family is important, but rather by his demeanor once he returned – once Upset had taken care of his urgent matters and returned to Fnatic’s ranks, he almost immediately spoke against some of his teammates, demanding them to be benched and changed with better players.

Adam “Adam” Maanane, a former Fnatic player, was really hurt when Upset returned and immediately targeted him, saying that he “wasn’t up to his ambitions.” In his disgruntlement, Adam had shared that from his point of view with fans, prompting that Upset’s leave was unjustified and he’s so secretive about it because he probably wanted to be with his lonely wife.

Despite loving Fnatic, Adam eventually left the team of his own volition, because he felt betrayed by his peers.
