  • CoD: Modern Warfare III has a new game mode
  • It drops players into a Warzone-like map with objectives, crates, and loot
  • However, many fans don’t seem to like the feature

Fans who have preordered Modern Warfare III seem to agree that the new Open Combat Missions feature is the “laziest” CoD feature in a long time.

Players Diss New Gamemode

We are just a few days away from the launch of one of the most-anticipated games of the year – CoD: Modern Warfare III. Despite that, the beta has already been played by hundreds of thousands of people over the past few weeks and many of them have opinions to give. Although some applaud the game, others criticize a major element of the story and gameplay.

Over the years, CoD has dived into other genres of game, namely battle royals with titles like Warzone and it seems Activision wants to bring that experience into the MWIII remake. The new game features what are called “Open Combat Missions”, which drop players into a Warzone-like map with objectives, weapon crates to loot, and enemies to avoid or kill to progress the campaign.

Unfortunately, it seems that the devs have not made the missions what they should be and fans are pissed. “Open Missions has to be one of the LAZIEST things I have seen from developers in a long time,” a Reddit post discussing the feature reads. In short, the OP talks about how CoD games have always had short but fun and cinematic campaigns. However, they also say that Open Combat Missions are not well written, have a small map, and are “lazy”.

Others Seem to Agree

Considering the post got thousands of likes at the time of writing of this article, many fans seem to agree. “What got me into Call of Duty way back in 2003, was the epic story. WW2, you’re a soldier, fighting through Europe, with emotional music, lovely quotes about the terrors of war, I mean it was groundbreaking,” one highly-voted comment reads. “Multiplayer was nice but the campaigns, at least for me, always set the tone. This game is completely removed from its origins.”

The statement that older CoD games had a better story was echoed throughout the comments. Another fan even stated that the devs simply do not care about the story anymore and just focus on the series’ multiplayer aspects. “I think they stopped giving a fuck when COD became a household name,” the comment reads. “I remember COD4 seeming revolutionary in a saturated market for war games. World at War followed up on that formula and MW2 and Black Ops added to that. The point is, they put in effort to get the franchise to where it is now.”

This is not the first time fans have been criticizing the new title. Complaints have varied from bugs to players dissing a leaked MWIII operator bundle. Despite the game not even being released yet, it seems many are displeased with various aspects of the product. That being said, the criticisms come mainly from people who have preordered the game. They are often the more diehard fans of the franchise, so it’s likely they are also more critical of it.

The full Modern Warfare III will be released on November 10 and it will be interesting to see what the broader audience would say, but for now, things look a bit shaky for the title.

“In fact, we would argue that Bitcasino’s esports product is one of the best we have experienced. It’s simple, clear-cut, and offers a variety of products and options that other platforms are failing to deliver on.”
