  • The company has not fulfilled its promises of updating fans on the game
  • Many players express their frustration on social media
  • Blizzard might not have the manpower and resources to work on the project right now

With almost no information being given on Overwatch 2, fans are getting increasingly dissatisfied with the game studio, and are venting their anger on social media.

Players Ask about Overwatch 2

Ever since its release in 2016, Overwatch has become one of the most popular FPS games for both casual and competitive gamers. Three years later in 2019, Blizzard south to capitalize on that popularity by announcing a sequel for the game at BlizzCon 2019, aptly named Overwatch 2. However, as time passed by, fans received less and less information about the title.

Right now, as Blizzard is in the middle of a deal that will see it being purchased by Microsoft, many fans have again started asking the game studio about news on Overwatch 2. These inquiries are rising in response to the uncertain future of the game once the deal between Blizzard and Microsoft goes through. Another major point of complaint is that Activision Blizzard previously promised they would communicate more on Overwatch 2 in 2022, but have simply not followed through.

The lack of news on the title rubbed Overwatch fans the wrong way, with many of them taking to social media to express their dissatisfaction. Blizzard is releasing Reaper’s mini-event on February 22, but many players see this as just an excuse for the seemingly drip-feeding of content over the past few years.

The content drought is nothing new, nor it is something that only just a few fans are complaining about. Even popular content creators and professional players like Matthew “super” DeLisi, the San Francisco Shock main tank asked “Why Have They Abandoned It?” not long ago.

The same can be said for the official Overwatch forums. It appears that a lot of the posts are either asking about updates on Overwatch 2 or blasting the developers for not following through on their promise for info.

Why Is Blizzard Not Updating Fans?

Overwatch’s creator has had a rough 6 months, to say the least. The ongoing lawsuits regarding Blizzard employees’ sexual harassment scandals have put a very negative dent in the company’s reputation. This has led to a non-trivial number of Blizzard employees leaving the company, creating a manpower shortage.

This seems to be worsened by the alleged fact that management seems to not know where to put the company’s resources. There were allegations recently and the company’s CEO Bobby Kotick was blamed for the large team turnover at Activision Blizzard. Part of the reasons stated for that turnover is the constant rearrangement of teams and redistribution of resources over various projects.

The deal with Microsoft will take months to complete and many projects’ fates remain unclear. In the meantime, fans are left to wonder what Overwatch 2 might look like if it comes to fruition.
