  • Jojopyun continues collecting accolades
  • The player averaged an impressive 4.7 Kills/Deaths/Assists ratio during the season
  • He is the second EG player to receive the Rookie of the Year award

At just 17 years of age, Evil Geniuses’ novice mid laner Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun has been awarded the LCS Rookie of the Year award.

Jojopyun Is Chosen as Rookie of the Year

The 2022 Summer Split of the LCS and LEC has concluded and while the winners are celebrating and teams are preparing for the next matches, one must not forget the additional rewards many players are receiving. Titles like “best coaching staff”, or most valuable player, are sometimes just as coveted as the grand prize.

And while LEC pros are discussing who should be the MVP, the LCS has already announced the recipient of the Rookie of the Year award. This is non-other than Evil Geniuses’ mid laner Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun.

At just 17 years old, the player continues his streak of receiving accolades. He was voted in first place with a two-thirds majority. The criteria on which jojopyun was chosen are different from those about the MVP. They look at a player’s performance throughout the entire season, rather than just a single split. With an average 4.7 Kills/Deaths/Assists ratio and 30 gold up at 15 minutes, it’s easy to see why jojopyun was voted as the best rookie of the season.

Jojopyun Has a Short but Amazing Record

The Canadian player finished first in the Summer Split with a 15-3 record and secured a spot in the LCS 2022 Championship. Evil Geniuses only lost to the second, third, and fourth-place teams in the LCS throughout the Summer Split. Jojopyun has played in 88 total games for EG so far, leading the team to a total record of 57-31 in individual games on the year (including international tournaments).

The young prodigy has immensely helped his team from the very start. Jojopyun led EG to its first LCS title in the franchise’s history during his first split on the LCS stage. Soon after that, his skills helped Evil Geniuses go to the semifinals of the Mid-Season Invitational.

Jojopyun’s Rookie of the Year award marks the second consecutive time one of EG’s players receives the coveted recognition. Last season, ADC Danny was given the honors for the team after his explosive debut.

It will be interesting to see how will Evil Geniuses perform in the future with such a young but already well-established talent in their midst.
