After a disastrous overall performance at the Stockholm Major, Evil Geniuses goes home after a close tie against beastcoast.

EG Goes Home

The DPC’s Stockholm Major is going full swing and teams are being knocked out left and right. One of the victims was none other than North American favorite Evil Geniuses, who had to leave the competition after a 1-1 tie against beastcoast. The team came into the match against beastcoast needing a 2-0 win to stay alive in the tournament, but their adversaries stood their ground driving the match to a 1-1 draw, ultimately kicking Evil Geniuses off the competition.

EG’s defeat, however, maybe should not come to anyone’s surprise, as the team struggled a lot from the start of the Major. The team started the event slow and didn’t manage to pick up momentum as it marked loss after loss. In the end, Evil Geniuses didn’t manage to win a single series and ended their run at the Stockholm Major with a disastrous 2-10 score.

EG’s veteran Danish player Andreas Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen posted a tweet apologizing to all fans who supported the team, saying he should have done more to prevent the defeat.

What’s the Current Situation in the Major?

Evil Geniuses has become the first and only team to be eliminated from the Group Stages of the Stockholm Major 2022 since it finished at the bottom of Group A. Meanwhile, Group B will not see any eliminations as it is composed of only six teams, because Mind Games did not even make it to the tournament and forfeited all its games.

Group B had a chance to see the first-ever six-way tie in competitive Dota history entering the final day. However, this did not happen because Gaimin Gladiators swept Fnatic and took the first seed for themselves.

Back to Group A, its upper bracket was secured by OG and BetBoom Team, who passed T1 and BOOM Esports. But the most dominant remained Tundra Esports with their 11-1 score.

Now that remains are the playoffs, which are shaping up to be quite interesting. They will feature TA taking on BB Team, OG going up against TSM, and the first clash between GG and T1. The lower bracket competitors like BOOM and beastcoast will be playing with the danger of going home after just one loss. They will have to stave off that danger in the hopes of earning at least a portion of the $500,000 and 3,530 Pro Circuit points.
