After placing last in a third ESL Pro League season in a row Evil Geniuses risks losing its permanent place in the league.

Evil Geniuses Might Be Removed from the ESL Pro League

Things have not been rosy for Evil Geniuses’ Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team. The organization is known as one of the most influential names in esports but now risks losing its position in the ESL Pro League.

Truth is the squad has not been performing that greatly in recent times. The Geniuses just fourteenth match in a row in the ESL Pro League and have placed last in the last three competitive seasons. The team is considered a partner of ESL and has a permanent place secured in the league. However, it now risks losing it because of its underperformance, as described in the Louvre Agreement.

The latter states that a partner team has its place in the league secured. However, if one of those teams places last in 3 out of 4 seasons, its permanent spot might be reconsidered. Evil Geniuses fulfills that criteria and may lose its place in the league.

The Team Could Not Win a Single Game in a Year

The team’s last victory dates to March 25 last year – more than a year ago. Following that hardly-earned triumph, Evil Geniuses became a punching bag for all of its competitors, scoring loss after loss.

The Geniuses have tried everything to improve their performance but no roster change has helped them to score a victory. After the league’s thirteenth season, Evil Geniuses removed Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz and Tarik “tarik” Celik from the lineup, replacing them with Damian “daps” Steele and Michał “MICHU” Müller. The fourteenth season was not any better, prompting the team to introduce an even bigger roster change and replace daps, MICHU and oBo with Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip, Timothy “automatic” Ta and William “RUSH” Wierzba.

Tsvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov and Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte are the only two staple players who have played with the team across all of the last three seasons. Some esports analysts have been expecting the ESL Pro League to appeal to the Louvre Agreement and kick Evil Geniuses out of the league. However, the league might decide to give the team a chance and allow it to continue competing for the time being.
