  • The Doc criticizes the newest addition to the CoD franchise after its gameplay reveal last week
  • He says the engine looks “dated”
  • Nevertheless, Dr Disrespect hopes the game would have good gameplay

Dr Disrespect, the popular streamer known for his hot takes on games, said he felt “underwhelmed” when seeing Modern Warfare II’s gameplay trailer.

The Doc Is Not Impressed

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is one of this year’s most anticipated FPS titles. The game, which is a remake of the most popular CoD game, that originally came out in 2009, has been at the forefront of developer Infinity Ward’s marketing campaign. The company is trying to generate as much hype as possible, even including popular streamers like TimTheTatman in its trailers.

The game finally received an official gameplay trailer last week, adding to players’ anticipations, but some are still not convinced. This includes notorious Call of Duty streamer Dr Disrespect, who in a stream a few days ago described what he’s seen so far from the game as “unimpressive”.

The Doc is known for his hot takes on many gaming topics, and he is often one of the first ones to criticize CoD games, should he feel like something’s not right. “When I look at a trailer like that, the single-player campaign trailer, you could just tell that engine—it’s dated,” he said in a recent Battlefield 2042 stream.

Although MWII is built on a brand-new engine, according to Charlie Intel, the Doc doesn’t seem to be all that impressed. He compared the MWII with whatever game his Midnight Society studio is working on at the moment. He claimed he could screengrab the current build of the game and that nothing in the MWII reveal “could match that screenshot.”

Despite the Doc seemingly blasting the game, he remains a CoD fan and wants to see the game perform well. “I think they’re just going to have to knock it out of the park with the Modern Warfare gameplay,” Dr Disrespect said to his chat. “Let’s hope they do that. I wouldn’t mind fantastic multiplayer and new battle royale. Let’s not get it mistaken. We know what the potential can be.”

Regarding the other reveals at the Summer Game Fest, on which Infinity Ward revealed MWII’s gameplay footage, the Doc said he was impressed with all of the smaller, indie developers. However, he still felt that most triple-A games from large studios were underwhelming.

In the end, we will just have to wait and see what Modern Warfare II will look and play like after it releases on October 28 this year.
