- Valve teased a new Frostivus event coming sometime soon
- The company also talked about the much-anticipated new Arcanas
- There’s still no concrete date when the event will begin
Previous years’ Frostivus celebrations have been a great way to celebrate the end of the year and it seems that Valve will be reintroducing the event in Dota 2 soon, although it’s still unknown what it will consist of.
Valve Teases Frostivus
With the winter and festive season now being very close, many video game studios are busy preparing events for the end of the year’s celebrations, Valve is no exception to that and according to hints from a recent blog post, Frostivus will be returning to Dota 2 very soon.
Described as a “magical year-end event,” Frostivus is a winter and holiday-themed event that features minigames, arena-sized spectacles, new features, and a multitude of cosmetics and surprises. Previous iterations of the festive event, such as the one from 2018, also included the Frosthaven, which is a co-op survival mode, where the players fend off herds of enemies.
This year promises a ton of new things to celebrate the end-of-year festivities. “What’s that sound in the festive distance? No, that jingling of sleigh bells you hear isn’t early onset tinnitus. It’s the magical year-end event we call Frostivus — looming large on the December calendar,” Valve’s blog post reads.
That being said, the company did not reveal much detail about the event such as when exactly it starts and what will be included in it. Instead, the post talked a lot more about the expectations surrounding the release of new Arcanas. Valve acknowledged that the plans for the Arcanas this year have encountered additional complexities, which has led to delays. However, the company assured the fans that Arcanas will be revealed sometime in the coming months.
Do We Know What Will There Be?
It would be quite difficult to figure out what the 2023 iteration of Frostivus would deliver. Valve barely said anything in regards to the actual content that the event will arrive with and at this point we could only speculate. The only thing we know for certain is that the much-anticipated new Arcanas will not be implemented in Dota 2 with the event’s patch.
Even looking at older iterations of the event from previous years might not be helpful, as each one has added many different things. These could include a slew of minigames or an entirely new game mode being implemented in the game. However, one thing is for certain – whatever shape or form the event takes, it will come with a ton of cosmetic items, as this is a common feature of all previous Frosivus iterations. Players will likely have to play the event to get points with which they can unlock various goodies.
Considering December is approaching fast, Valve will likely release more detailed information about the event in the coming days, so make sure to stay tuned for that.
