Team Spirit Grabs the Aegis of Champions and $18.2M

in DOTA 2, Popular
October 20, 2021
  • Team Spirit has won The International 10 Dota 2 tournament
  • As winners, the players will take an $18.2 million prize and the Aegis of Champions
  • This is the first time an Eastern European team has won TI in a decade

Team Spirit has prevailed against all of its competitors and has emerged as the champions of The International 10.

Team Spirit Have Won TI10

A monumental moment for Team Spirit as the Russian organization’s Dota 2 team has prevailed at The International 10. The hard-working athletes will now take home both the Aegis of Champions and $18.2 million.

This is a big step in the history of esports, the history of Team Spirit, and the career of the organization’s players. With The International 10 being the biggest annual Dota 2 tournament, the athletes will have their names forever carved in the annals of the game.

WE ARE THE INTERNATIONAL 10 CHAMPIONS 🐉

It was an amazing adventure. We thank all the fans for your support! We wouldn't be there without you. See you next season!#SPIRITIX pic.twitter.com/JWB5buXfEW

At first, things didn’t seem very bright for Team Spirit as they were quickly transferred to a lower bracket after an early loss against Team Secret. Yet, the spirited Team Spirit players quickly buckled up and started carving their way up. The players knocked out some fearsome opponents, such as Invictus Gaming, Virtus.pro, and Fnatic. Team Spirit then took its revenge on Team Secret and proceeded to knock down PSG.LGD at the tournament’s finals.

Team Spirit went against some of the biggest names in Dota 2 esports and emerged victoriously. Thanks to the incredible performance of the team, the Aegis of Champions will go to Eastern Europe for the first time since The International’s first edition in 2011.

The Biggest Dota 2 Tournament Ever

The International 10 is the biggest Dota 2 event to date. The stakes were high, especially considering it had a prize pool of over $40 million. As champions, Team Spirit will take back the lion’s share of $18.2 million, while their competitor PSG.LGD, Team Secret, and Invictus Gaming will take $5.2 million, $3.6 million, and $2.4 million respectively.

This gargantuan prize sum was partially provided by Valve, partially collected by fans’ purchases during special in-game Dota 2 events and battle passes.

The International 10 was originally planned to take place in Sweden but trouble with the local law and COVID-19 hurdles forced Valve to relocate the event to Romania. As the organizers had to do this big relocation in a hurry, some players, including Team Spirit, had less-than-perfect accommodations and a training hall. However, the event still managed to see a spectacular play from all teams involved.

Team Spirit will now be able to take some well-deserved rest before the next competitive season starts.
