SumaiL Talks Mindsets between Team Liquid and OG

in DOTA 2
July 12, 2021
  • In a streaming session, SumaiL said that Team Liquid is a highly skilled Dota 2 team
  • What was different between OG and Team Liquid was the mindset
  • OG, SumaiL argued, was relaxed, and there was no pressure because everyone felt confident

Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan speaks on how different mindsets in Dota 2 may determine who wins or loses in an important event.

SumaiL Talks about His Experience with OG and TL

Picking the brain of those players that inspire generations is always fun. Data 2's Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan definitely one of the lodestars in the esports industry and one of the game's most prominent ambassadors. As a part of the competitive community, SumaiL's decisions are often subject to debate, and his experience in both Team Liquid and OG, two of the game's most significant competitive outfits, has allowed him to compare the experiences in a new stream session.

According to the Dota 2 ace, Team Liquid was a great place to play if you had the raw skills, but the difference in playstyle between TL and OG has to do with the mindsets in both organizations. OG, according to him, was far more relaxed, and everyone felt comfortable and confident, taking some of the pressure off.

In OG, SumaiL said, there was hardly any pressure to speak of. He thought that was the far more important quality in a team than how good their raw skills were. “It does not matter how good you are, what kind of strategies you have, if you are not comfortable, confident, it's gonna bite you,” he continued.

SumaiL played as a stand-in for Team Liquid for two months during the Dota Pro Circuit 2021 but had to leave after Boxi, the absent Team Liquid offlaner, returned. That left SumaiL out of the picture once again, but with Ana retiring from OG, that offered a new opportunity for the Dota 2 gun.

Lack of Pressure Is What Determines Who Wins and Who Loses

SumaiL joining OG was not exactly surprising as the player had teamed up with the organization during 2020 when he played with them for a fair stretch of six months. With The International 10 coming on October 7 and running all through October 17 in Bucharest, Romania, OG has a strong player who seems to feel comfortable with the rest of the squad.

As an old tune has it, “on the surface, he looks calm and ready.” Is that the case with SumaiL? It certainly seems to be the case when you take a look at OG, who have qualified for The International without much pushback.

OG is a two-time The International winner with back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2019. As SumaiL says, the team always goes for the heroes they feel most comfortable with, and this has certainly had a part to play in their most recent successes.
