Rumors Say Virtus.pro Will Scrap Its Entire Dota 2 Roster

in DOTA 2
October 19, 2022
  • The team’s poor performance and “toxic atmosphere” are cited as reasons for this
  • The players allegedly also agreed with this decision
  • Such a move will finally allow ex-captain Save- to search for new opportunities

Many sources have indicated Virtus.pro will be releasing its entire Dota 2 team after the organization failed to qualify for The International 2022 three times.

VP To Release its Whole Roster

The biggest Dota 2 event of the year, The International 11, is fast approaching, and organizations are making last-minute changes and preparations. And as some, like OG, will deploy brand new rosters, others, like Virtus.pro might see their entire roster disbanded ahead of the start of TI11.

According to sources of Dota 2 reporter Arseny Kuzminsky, the team might be let go before the next Dota Pro Circuit begins in 2023. Rumors of this started circulating shortly after the organization parted ways with Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev, and it seems the reasons don’t stop at the team’s poor performance at the end of the season.

Several sources simultaneously confirm that VP players decided to part ways after a series of setbacks at #TI11.

These rumors come as a surprise to many Dota 2 fans as total roster scrappings are rare. It was obvious that Virtus would have to go through some big changes because the team failed to qualify for The International 2022 three different times, but even this seems somewhat extreme. But according to Kuzminsky’s sources, VP’s remaining players agreed to part ways with the organization.

What Happens Now?

One does not see entire rosters leaving an organization too often and there are usually other reasons aside from poor performance that can lead to such results. And VP is no different with Kuzminsky’s sources citing the overall “destructive and toxic atmosphere within the team” as one of the other reasons why the roster might be disbanding. Allegedly, this became such a problem that players had been skipping training camps before some of the final events for the season, which is yet another reason for VP’s poor performance this year.

If anything, a potential dissolvent of VP’s current Dota 2 squad will resolve some issues, like ex-captain Vitalie “Save-” Melnic finally finding a new team after a year on VP’s inactive roster. was rumored to be leaving VP after TI10 last October right as talks of Evil Geniuses signing Nightfall from the roster hit a fever pitch. However, VP wanted to sell his contract to other interested teams, and thus decided to keep Save- on its inactive roster.

Save- might not be the only player waiting on VP’s inactive roster to be transferred to another team. Illias “illias” Ganeev has been in a similar situation after being moved to the inactive roster in January and a potential release of all of VP’s players will also allow him to search for new opportunities.
