Quincy Crew Releases MiLAN and Ponlo

in DOTA 2
April 27, 2022
  • The team parts ways with both players after the Dota Pro Circuit Spring Tour
  • This is due to the team’s string of defeats and its wish to restructure before the Third Tour of the DPC 2021/22
  • It seems the players were not notified on time about these changes

Quincy Crew parts ways with Milan “MiLAN” Kozomara and Remus “ponlo” Goh Zhi Xian following a series of defeats.

Both Players Leave QC

Making mid-seasonal changes to a roster is nothing new, and Quincy Crew is no exception as the organization recently released two of its players – Milan “MiLAN” Kozomara and Remus “ponlo” Goh Zhi Xian. These changes come after the team did not manage to qualify for the Dota 2 Stockholm Major.

Today QC unfortunately part way with two of our players – Ponlo & Milan.

Thank you both for your passion and hard work during two intense tours, under difficult circumstances, and we wish you all the best of luck with your future competitions. #StayCrew pic.twitter.com/oDwRO9Qz4h

— Quincy Crew (@Quincy_Crew) April 25, 2022

Both players joined Quincy Crew along with Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann before the start of this year’s season as part of the organization’s attempt to rebuild after The International 10.

Why Did QC Come to This Decision?

The roster was one of the best in North America during both the Winter and Spring Tours but has recently accumulated several losses to Evil Geniuses and TSM. QC sat atop North America’s Division I regional league, however, the team was not able to attend a Major due to COVID forcing Valve to restructure the DPC.

This is the point where Evil Geniuses came to ruin the Crew’s already troubled run as QC finished third as EG bounced back from a rocky first Tour. TSM added to the Crew’s troubles and during the Spring Tour the three teams all tied for the top spot. However, Quincy Crew fell short in the three-way tiebreakers, losing both games and getting knocked out, spoiling their plans to attend the Stockholm Major in May.

It Seems the Players Were Not Notified in Advance

This poor performance led the organization to look at a partial restructuring, prompting it to release MiLAN and ponlo. However, the player’s posts suggest the separation was not as amicable as Quincy Crew’s tweet might have suggested. Just a few hours before the organization announced the news, MiLAN posted in his native Serbian language “Thanks for the betrayal on time”. This might suggest the player was not notified on time about the organization’s decision.

За издају на време рећи ћу ти само хвала.

— MiLAN (@milandota2) April 25, 2022

MiLAN’s former colleague ponlo did not comment on the situation, but instead apologized to everyone on Twitter, saying he will be taking some time off.

sorry to everyone, going to take some time off.

— Remus (@ponlodota) April 22, 2022

The Third Tour of the DPC 2021/22 season is scheduled to commence in June 2022, but Quincy Crew has not made any indications with whom it wants to fill up the now free spaces. Right now, this is what QC’s roster looks like:

  • Yawar “YawaR” Hassan
  • Quinn “Quinn” Callahan
  • Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann
