The Dota 2 community lost one of its most popular Chinese broadcast talents, Mi “Yammers” Hongwei, who took his own life after years of suffering from crippling depression.
Yammers Passes Away
Video Games can bring tons of joy to many, but unfortunately, they are not a cure for one’s deep sadness and life troubles. Sometimes professionals from the pro gaming scene, just like other people, face hardships that cannot be swept away with just another round of a game. Unfortunately, one of them, a professional Chinese Dota 2 caster by the name of Mi “Yammers” Hongwei, faced such overwhelming problems which resulted in him taking his own life.
The Dota 2 community learn of the 26-year-old caster’s tragic passing from a suicide note he posted on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. He was regarded as one of the best Chinese casters on the professional scene and sported a rich career, including having three The International appearances in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
Yammers goes in length about the reasons he undertook such a drastic measure. He starts off his suicide note by giving a brief background of then and where he was born and what his early childhood was like. Not before long, he explains the distant relationship he’s had with his father and the fact that Yammers was not able to spend much time with him because he was working away a lot of the time.
The caster then continues describing his relationship with other children from the compound he grew up in. He explained that he was often bullied by children and that their parents seemed to look at him in a strange way. Unfortunately, his troubles only seemed to get worse when he entered high school, where he again fought other kids who were bullying him.
Yammers explained that this was the time he started playing Dota 2 a lot. This was one of the few positive things about his life and it was an escape for him, as both his school life and home life were filled with negativity, violence, and even physical assault. Many Reddit users expressed their grief in the comments of the Reddit post, with one of his friends claiming he did not know of the deep struggles Yammers had been going through. “YammerS was a friend of mine. He always appeared to be a lively, outgoing, polite young man. However, I was unaware of his struggle with depression and the stories behind it.”
