Next Dota 2 Season to Have Three Majors According to Data Miners

in DOTA 2
August 10, 2021
  • Steam files have revealed some exciting Dota 2 information
  • Apparently, next year’s DPC season will have three regional seasons and three Majors
  • This was originally planned for the 2020-2021 season but failed due to the pandemic

According to exciting Steam, file finds, Dota 2’s next DPC season will have three Majors.

Back on Track with the Original Schedule

DOTA DataMining just uncovered some very interesting and exciting information. Apparently, judging from Steam Dota 2 files, the next DPC season will have three Majors and regional leagues instead of this year’s two.

According to the leak, the first Major will be this autumn, while the other two are roughly scheduled for winter 2022 and spring 2022. The data miners didn’t find any mentions of precise dates.

This is big news as if it turns out to be correct, Dota 2 esports will finally be back on track after receiving a blow from COVID-19 – this year had only two Majors, compared with the initially planned three.

Valve’s original intentions were to hold The International 10 in 2020 and to have the 2020-2021 DPC with three seasons of regional leagues, culminating in three majors, respectively. However, TI10 was delayed for this year, and the seasons were cut by one. As a result, we only had two majors: the Singapore Major and the WePlay AniMajor.

The Future of Dota 2 Esports

By the looks of it, Dota 2 esports seems to be recovering. If the tendency continues, things would probably go as Valve had initially intended them, and in the 2021-2022 season, Dota 2 enthusiasts will finally have three majors.

Moreover, the Steam files that uncovered this information also mentioned the AniMajor and TI10, which means that it is probably legit and Valve is planning things in advance. If this is indeed so, the game company will probably confirm its plans for the next Dota 2 esports season in the near future.

The next big event in competitive Dota 2 is the long-awaited The International 10. The event will be one of the most grandiose esports events ever and will have a whopping prize pool of $40 million. The big tournament is scheduled for October 7 and will take place in Romania after failing the negotiations with the Swedish government.

In past years The International editions have been followed by a short offseason before the start of the next DPC season. It is still unknown how Valve will arrange its schedule for the upcoming events.
