MidOne Says Farewells to OG Ahead of Singapore Major

in DOTA 2
March 23, 2021
  • Professional Dota 2 player MidOne has left team OG
  • After the suboptimal performance and bad synergy, the team feels the need to make adjustments
  • MidOne’s substitute still hasn’t been announced

After OG’s diminishing performance and failure to be admitted for the ONE Esports Singapore Major, the team deems it necessary to make adjustments and dismisses MidOne.

MidOne’s Dismissal and the Reasoning Behind it

Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng was laid off OG’s Dota 2 roster. This was announced yesterday on the organization’s Twitter.

OG kindly mentioned that they were thankful to MidOne for the time they spent together. The organization is firm that he gave his best and that he had “brought immense amounts of joy” to the team. Further elaborating on their official page, OG said their thanks to MidOne for all his efforts to change styles and try out new heroes and approaches when the team needed them.

However, the tweet concludes that sometimes an adjustment is needed.

Sometimes even when you gave it your all, an adjustment is still needed.@midonedota2's talent and mischievous energy brought immense amounts of joy to everyone around him.

We all thank him immensely for everything he did for us.

OG will be laying MidOne off with best wishes for his bright future in the esports scene. This comes as a needed move as the team’s performance has been recently dropping. Although they grabbed fifth place in the first season of the European League, they did somewhat shabbily at the upper-division in the second season. To top it all, they have now failed to uphold their standards and didn’t manage to qualify for the ONE Esports Singapore Major.

To prevent further dropping down the ladder, the team has decided to make a change and switch MidOne with someone else. Co-Owner of OG, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, commented that MidOne is one of the best players out there, but even with all the effort to adjust his style, he never managed to fit the rest of the team. Debs claims that competitive synergy is something unique and complex and sometimes just doesn’t work out. The co-owner wishes Zheng the best of luck in finding a team where his unique playstyle can truly shine.

MidOne was stuck in Southeast Asia for quite some time because of the pandemic. Regardless of that, the player did his best to play for his European team. OG’s CEO JMR Luna, praised him for his resilience in playing for an esports team so far away from home.

OG hasn’t announced who will be stepping in MidOnes’ shoes. However, fans are already either suggesting or guessing a replacement, with many expecting Anathan “ana” Pham to return to OG’s lineup from their inactive roster.
