Evil Geniuses Sign Back Fly to Their Dota 2 Roster

in DOTA 2
June 1, 2022
  • Fly returns to Evil Geniuses’ Dota 2 team ahead of the final DPC Tour
  • Evil Geniuses have not been performing too well the past few months
  • The org hopes Fly will help it turn its fortunes around at the final DPC tour

Still recovering from a dismal season so far, Evil Geniuses is bringing back a familiar face in an attempt to turn their fortunes around.

Fly Returns to Evil Geniuses

It is somewhat uncommon for players to resign to teams they have already played for and left, but this is what Tal “Fly” Aizik recently did. The Israeli/Canadian Dota 2 pro recently resigned a contract with Evil Geniuses, who he left after the team had a disappointing run at The International 10.

Fly played for EG from May 2018 to late 2021 when he left the team to go have a brief stint in Southeast Asia as part of Talon Esports’ original roster. He eventually left that team earlier this year and was a free agent until he signed back to EG’s roster.

EG's Tribulations in Recent Months

Evil Geniuses have had some disappointing few months. Their troubles started late last year at the International 10 where the team ended up in ninth place despite being one of the most dominant teams during the 2021 DPC season. This prompted the organization to make some changes, like bringing in Nightfall from Eastern Europe and former OG staple JerAx out of retirement.

However, these changes did not bring EG the desired results and their bad run has continued ever since. Most recently, the team dropped out of the DPC Stockholm Major with a pitiful overall score of 2-10. EG performed well in the NA regional leagues as they got more practice together and dominated their seed heading into the DPC Stockholm. However, it seems everything fell apart when it counted the most. The team even ended up releasing JerAx after the disappointing run at the Stockholm Major.

This mid-season change cost Evil Geniuses vital points but the team is still well within striking distance of qualifying for TI11. However, this could happen only if the team receives a direct invite if they perform well during the Summer Tour and can place somewhat well at the Arlington Major in August.

Now, the organization hopes that Fly’s many years of experience, some of which as a captain, as well as him knowing most of EG’s players, will help it turn its fortunes around. This is Evil Geniuses’ current roster composition:

  • Artour “Arteezy” Babaev
  • Abed Azel “Abed” L. Yusop
  • Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko
  • Andreas Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen
  • Tal “Fly” Aizik
  • Kanishka ‘Sam' “BuLba” Sosale (Coach)
