O Plano Signs Zews
Esports professionals often retire young in order to do other things. But sometimes the promise of fame and fortune entices many of them to come back to the sport once again. It seems this has happened to one of Brazil’s most accomplished CS:GO coaches Wilton “zews” Prado.
The 34-year-old CS professional announced on Twitter yesterday that he will return to the professional scene to oversee the Brazilian team O Plano. Zews’ announcement comes more than a year after the coach left his previous team Evil Geniuses in June 2021.
Zews’ most immediate task with O Plano is to train the players in the team’s boot camp, which aims to prepare them for the upcoming IEM Road to Rio 2022 Americas RMR. This major, which will last two weeks from October 31 to November 13, will see 24 teams from across the globe compete for glory and a piece of the $1 million prize pool. Unfortunately, because zews was registered in the squad after the roster lock deadline, he will not be able to stand behind his team during the matches. The lack of direct supervision and commentary from their coach might negatively impact the players’ performance.
Zews Is a Renowned CS:GO Veteran
Despite O Plano signing zews late and not being able to use him directly at the Rio Major, the organization still struck a good deal. Zews' excellent resume includes entries on teams such as Luminosity, MIBR, and Evil Geniuses. Under his supervision, Luminosity-SK core won back-to-back Majors at MGL Columbus 2016 and ESL One Cologne 2016, and also took home a lot of other trophies.
After he left Luminosity, zews had a short stint back as a player with Immortals before transferring to Team Liquid. He stayed with the NA organization for two years but in late 2018 he came back to Brazil to coach MIBR.
After that, zews went to coach in Evil Geniuses, but left the organization last year by mutual consent over a difference of opinion regarding the team's direction. In April this year, zews suffered and survived a life-threatening heart attack. In an interview for Dust2.com.br the coach said he plans to stay in retirement to keep his health in check and avoid the stresses of pro CS:GO.
However, it seems that the chance to stand behind a team in front of a home crowd at the Rio Major changed zews’ plans.
