Underdogs Into the Breach have performed better than many expected in the BLAST Paris Major but were eventually eliminated by Vitality following a 2-0 match.
Vitality Defeat Into the Breach
We are slowly closing out the BLAST Premier Paris Major as teams are duking it out in the event’s playoffs in order to secure a much-coveted spot in the tournament’s semi-finals. Vitality is the second team to have done so after the mixed European team defeated Into the Breach in a 2-0 match.
“It's amazing to play here, to feel the crowd,” said Vitality’s Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen in a post-game interview. “We played a little scared in the beginning, overall I'm still happy we won.” The 30-year-old player also addressed the fact that Vitality did not start the season very well, but hopes that the Major is an opportunity for the team to show what they have learned over the past few months.
But while Vitality is celebrating, Into the Breach has to cope with the fact that their run at the BLAST Paris Major has ended. Despite that, we should note that the British team performed well, considering they were an underdog squad. Into the Breach made the Major top-eight as a team that no one expected much from. However, the Brits silenced critics by scoring important victories against FaZe, ENCE, and fnatic on their way to meet Vitality.
Here’s How the Match Went
Vitality and Into the Breach faced off on two maps, starting with Vertigo. Despite eventually losing, the British team did not plan on making it easy for their European opponents. Into the Breach took the early initiative, eventually winning Vertigo’s first half with a 9-6 lead. They continued the momentum in the second one, but ran out of steam, allowing Vitality to take the lead. Eventually, the Europeans won Vertigo 16-11, despite Into the Breach’s best efforts to regain the initiative.
Anubis was the second map played and its first half also finished with a 9-6, but this time it was in favor of Vitality. Into the Breach put up a valiant effort once the sides switched, but were simply unable to gain the advantage and force a third deciding map. Vitality’s ZywOo with his 1.70 rating was crucial in denying Into the Breach that opportunity.
Vitality now await the winner of the Liquid vs. Apeks game in the semi-finals, while Into the Breach are sent home from the last-ever CS:GO tournament before the game transitions to Counter-Strike 2 in the summer.
