Team Liquid and Astralis Get Defeated at the Very Start of the Spring Showdown

in Counter Strike
April 14, 2021
  • Two of the most popular teams got quickly eliminated from the BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown Counter-Strike tournament
  • In an unexpected turn of events, Dignitas felled Team Liquid, and OG prevailed over Astralis
  • OG will face G2 Esports in the next stage

As the BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown began, Team Liquid got quickly defeated, and so did Astralis, who has been on a performance decline.

The BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown Started With a Blast

The long-awaited BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown 2021 event in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is finally here, and it already managed to surprise fans on its first day of runtime. Two professional teams got quickly thrown out of the single-elimination type tournament, namely Team Liquid and Astralis.

Things have been especially bad for Astralis as this will mark their sixth loss of a map in a row. They were now eliminated from the Spring Showdown after losing with 0-2 in favor of OG. Even Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen, who tried to balance out the result in favor of Astralis, managed to only get seven kills.

OG’s victory was greatly benefited by Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså, who wreaked havoc among Astralis’ ranks and scored 26 kills compared to some mere six deaths. The result is also a good sign for them as they were continuously trying new things. One of their current members Shahar “flameZ” Shushan, joined mere days before the event. OG had proven to be willing to try out new strategies and adapt, as when in the ESL Pro League, they switched niko for NBK to avoid conflict of interests.

The other team that was defeated was Team Liquid. They were quickly dispatched in a similar 0-2 manner by Dignitas, who is now on the rise. As Dignitas had hoped, the addition of Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson to the team in March did improve their performance. For the length of the two games on the Nuke and Vertigo maps, Lekr0 and HEAP scored the whooping 47 kills each and completely decimated Team Liquid.

As the Counter-Strike tournament progresses, OG will have to next play against G2 Esports, who won their match against Endpoint, and Dignitas will fight with Team Spirit, who just won against Extra Salt. Team Spirit’s Dota 2 lineup just scored an amazing victory in the Dota 2 Champions League. We can stay tuned and see whether the team’s success carries on to CS: GO as well.

The event and strife for the prize pool of $162,500 continue now where Gambit Esports will face NASR Esports, MIBR will face FURIA Esports.
