BLAST Paris Major’s Legends Stage is just one game away from Ninjas in Pyjamas as the team moves past OG following a harrowing encounter on Mirage.
NiP Defeat OG
It’s day two of the much-anticipated BLAST Paris Major and teams from all around the world are duking it out in the Challengers stage of the tournament. But it has not been smooth sailing for everybody, and Ninjas in Pyjamas have certainly not had it easy, as they currently stand with one loss, one win, and a narrow victory against OG.
Competition in Paris now turns exclusively towards best-of-threes for the remainder of the opening phase. Tomorrow will reveal which two teams will earn a spot at the Legends Stage, while two others will be eliminated from the $1.25 million tournament in the French capital.
However, the highlight of the 1-1 pool so far was the showdown between OG and Ninjas in Pyjamas on Mirage. The match saw the two top-15 teams face one another in LAN for the forts time since they did so at ESL Pro League Season 17 in March. That match also saw NiP come ahead, but this time they had a much tougher encounter with OG.
Last time OG faced NiP, it did not go well for the former, therefore, the team was riled up to enact revenge upon their Nordic-majority opponents. And as both squads face each other on Mirage, OG quickly took the lead, running away with a more than comfortable 11-4 victory on the T-side in the first half.
However, as it looked like NiP would suffer a second loss in the Challengers pool, the team had a sudden surge of energy and started regaining some ground. They had a long way to go and OG would not give them an easy time. NiP had to force an overtime as both teams traded rounds in the final stages of the match. However, it was the Nordic-majority team that just barely came out on top with a 19-17 Mirage. A 30-bomb by Fredrik “REZ” Sterner was key in sending OG down to the 1-2 pool in Paris.
The BLAST Paris Major’s second day will continue with games between Apeks and G2, and ENCE and FaZe, set to determine the first Legends Stage-bound teams and those who will be eliminated.
