Polish tournament organizers are leading the way in competitive CS2 by announcing the Hussar Cup, which will be held in Chorzów late this summer.

Hussar Cup Announced

Counter-Strike 2 is going to be released sometime this summer and because of this tournament organizers are already announcing events that will be held once the revamped game arrives. One such tournament is the upcoming Polish LAN event, aptly named the Hussar Cup.

Being held over the span of almost a week from August 30 to September 3, the Hussar Cup will feature eight CS teams from around the globe, who will duke it out for a piece of the $1 million prize pool. The tournament will be held in the city of Chorzów at its Slaski Stadium serving as the venue. The event, which will be held together alongside a gaming and technology fair, conferences, and discussion panels, was announced through an interesting video, featuring actors dressed as terrorists and counter-terrorists, as well as a Polish hussar in full armor.

The tournament will have eight teams, four of which will be invited, and the rest will have to qualify. These eight teams will be split across two GSL-style, best-of-three groups, with the winners of each group advancing directly to the semi-finals of the playoffs. The second and third teams of each group will go to the quarterfinals. All matched from the playoffs will be single-elimination best-of-threes.

Open qualifiers for the Hussar Cup will take place from July 20 to August 4. From those, eight teams will advance to the closest qualifiers, which will be held from August 6 to 9. It should be noted that there will be a separate Polish qualifier, which will take place on August 5, from which two further teams will qualify. In the main closed qualifiers, they will be joined by eight teams invited based on their HLTV ranking, with only the top four teams from the main closed qualifiers earning a spot at the Hussar Cup.Since Valve confirmed in late Match that CS2 is coming soon, several tournament organizers have said they will be making tournaments for the revamped game, including PGL who announced the first-ever CS2 Major. It will take place in Copenhagen in March of next year, meaning many months need to be filled with competitive Counter-Strike to satisfy fans, before the big event comes. The Hussar Cup is just one of the first such tournaments and many more will likely follow.
