Following a series of successes G2 achieved under the supervision of interim coach Jan “Swani” Müller, the organization decided to sign him to a permanent position.
G2 Confirms Swani as New Head Coach
G2 have announced they are promoting Jan “Swani” Müller as the CS:GO team’s new permanent head coach. This follows the 28-year-old professional’s six-month stint in an interim position, which he took in October last year, when his predecessor, Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam, was released after G2 failed to qualify for the IEM Rio Major last year.
The announcement was made through a funny short video on the organization’s Twitter page with a “flashback” of the coach, showing his motivation to become the best CS:GO coach. In it, he is in a school and being mocked by his classmates for his dream. The video ends with Swani in the present, holding the trophies G2 has won under his leadership, as a status of his achievement.
After G2’s failure in the RMRs for the IEM Major last autumn, G2 announced they will complete the 2022 competitive season with Swani at the helm. In his new temporary position, the German proved successful in leading the team, with G2 qualifying for the playoffs of BLAST Premier Fall Final.
Swani’s biggest success last year was helping the team lift the trophy at the last event of the year at the titular BLAST event’s Grand Finals. The second trophy Swani was holding in the video was from when G2 won IEM Katowice 2023 after defeating Heroic in February.
Katowice is not the only success that G2 has achieved under Swani’s guidance in the past few months. Just a couple of weeks ago, the team qualified for the BLAST Paris Major after defeating Cloud9. The event, which will start next week in the French capital, will be the mixed European roster’s next big challenge. The players will have to tackle the Challengers Stage after a 3-2 run at the European RMR, with Swani’s first match as the official coach being against TheMongolz, which G2 will face on Monday, May 8.
