Evil Geniuses' WIZ CS:GO

Evil Geniuses Promote Wiz to Main CS:GO Roster

in Counter Strike
January 16, 2023
  • Wiz is the team’s new AWPer, being promoted from EG Black
  • He comes in boasting a respectable 1.14 rating and a +286 kill differential
  • His debut will be on January 17 against Heroic

Jerric “wiz” Jiang is promoted to EG’s main roster to fill the AWPer gap left when Tsvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov departed from the team.

Wiz Is Promoted

Larger esports organizations often field more than one roster per discipline, giving them a large degree of flexibility when it comes to composing teams for competitions. А lot of the time, these rosters are separated into a main one and a junior one that has the organization’s newer talent which is still in training.

Of course, movement between the two types of roster is common and Evil Geniuses announced that their EG Black member Jerric “wiz” Jiang has been promoted to the organization’s main CS:GO team. The 21-year-old will now be overtaking AWP duties in Evil Geniuses’ main squad, with his debut being the upcoming BLAST Premier Spring Groups.

Wiz’s path to EG’s evil roster spans several teams, with EG Black being just the latest step in the player’s career. He spent the second half of 2022 playing for the team, having built his name in the North American scene playing for RBG and briefly Carpe Diem. The 21-year-old performed very well during that time, achieving a respectable 1.14 rating and an impressive +286 kill differential.

Wiz Is EG’s New AWPer

Wiz’s new role comes after EG’s previous AWPer, Bulgarian player Tsvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov left the team earlier this year. Wiz will have to fill in the hole that was left by CeRq and the five years he spent in EG, helping the team win competitions like the BLAST Premier: Spring 2020 American Finals or the ESL One: Cologne 2020 Online – North America.

Time flies, 5 incredible years of being part of first NRG then EG. Forever grateful for the emotions, support and all the things we achieved together. Wishing all the best to the whole team. It's time for a new beginning.🤠 https://t.co/BnYrokg9bt

The promotion of Wiz is part of Evil Geniuses’ long road to rebuilding, which started in mid-2022 and was prompted by a consistent period of underwhelming performances dating back to the end of 2021. The changes helped in the sense that EG avoided finishing joint-last in ESL Pro League for the first time in multiple attempts. However, the team still failed to make much progress at the IEM Rio Major or make it through the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown.

Now, the organization hopes that Wiz would be the final piece needed for its comeback. Wiz’s first challenge as EG’s new AWPer will be on Thursday, January 19, as the team faces Heroic at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups. Evil Geniuses will go into the match with this team composition:

  • Timothy “autimatic” Ta
  • Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte
  • Sanzhar “neaLaN” Iskhakov
  • Jadan “HexT” Postma
  • Jerric “wiz” Jiang

Daniel “Vorborg” Vorborg (coach)
