BLAST Paris Major Participants Have Been Avoiding One Particular Map

in Counter Strike
May 12, 2023
  • Players seem to dislike Vertigo, as it was barely played
  • The next most popular maps have been played three times more often
  • Nuke, Inferno, and Mirage still dominate as the most popular maps

BLAST Premier Paris Major’s Challengers Stage showed that teams avoid Vertigo like the plague because it was chosen just twice in the event so far.

Players Dislike Vertigo

We are well into the final CS:GO Major that is ever going to be played, and the tournament has already shown us amazing twists and turns. Now that the BLAST Premier Paris Major’s Challengers stage has concluded and we have a full day of rest until the second part of the event starts tomorrow, it’s a good time to step back and look at some statistics.

One of the more interesting aspects of the tournament so far is regarding the maps played. Just like the active map pool, the BLAST Paris Major also saw all seven maps being played, but one of them was played far less than the others. When looking at HLTV’s statistics, one could extrapolate that teams participating in the last CS:GO major ever seem to avoid Vertigo like the plague.

So far in the tournament, the map was played only twice. Not only that, but Vertigo is far below other maps in terms of popularity by a huge margin. For comparison, Ancient and Overpass have been played seven times so far, while Anubis has been featured on the servers eight times. Meanwhile, Mirage, Inferno, and Nuke all hold the top spot of popular maps in the Paris Major, each having been played nine times so far.

Regarding the top three maps of the tournament, there should be no surprises. Nuke, Inferno, and Mirage almost always take the crown of the most played in A-tier tournaments. Perhaps teams feel these maps are some of the most balanced ones, or simply choose them because they vibe with them more than with others.

Despite most players seemingly disliking Vertigo, one team seems to not only like the map but thrive on it. The Polish squad 9INE will most certainly try to sneak the map through vetos in the Legends stage of the tournament, as the team has had a whopping 88% win rate on the map over 24 matches in the past three months. The Poles held a 16-win streak before it was broken by Astralis at Brazy Party a week ago. Despite that, we are likely to see 9INE once again call their favorite map once the BLAST Premier Paris Major continues into its second stage.

The tournament’s Legends Stage will commence on Saturday, May 13.
