Astralis Is Parting Ways with Its AWPer Lucky

May 9, 2022
  • Philip “Lucky” Ewald’s contract with the team will be ending in mid-May
  • The player is free to explore new opportunities
  • In a Twitlonger he thanked his teammates and said he is eager to put into practice what he has learned

Danish AWPer Philip “Lucky” Ewald’s contract with Astralis is soon ending, so the player announced he will be leaving the organization in mid-May.

Lucky to leave Astralis Soon

CS:GO professional player Philip “Lucky” Ewald has recently announced that his time with his current team Astralis is coming to an end. The 19-year-old’s contract with the team ends in the middle of May, so the organization has already allowed Lucky to start searching for new opportunities.

“I have been allowed to search for new opportunities by Astralis as my contract ends in mid-May,” wrote the young star in a Twitlonger regarding his plans for the future. Lucky initially joined Astralis in August last year, to fill the gap of the team’s previous AWPer Nicolai “device” Reedtz left.

However, Astralis seem to struggle a lot after device left, and Lucky did not seem to be able to remedy this. The team had abysmal results in the later months of 2021 – a trend that continued into 2022. The team’s worst moment was at the PGL Stockholm Major when it finished the 12th-14th place.

Perhaps in an attempt to turn its fortunes around, Astralis will be parting ways with Lucky and starting a search for a new AWPer.

Lucky’s Experience in Astralis

Lucky spent over six months with Astralis, but he never seemed to flourish. The team even ended up not letting him use the AWP full-time in several matches. Following Astralis’ participation at IEM Katowice, the 19-year-old player was benched and replaced by former FunPlus Phoenix sniper Asger “farlig” Jensen. According to HLTV’s statistics, Lucky will be leaving the team with an average rating of 0.92.

Despite his less than stellar results and the fact he will be leaving Astralis, Lucky thanked his teammates for the experience. “I have learned so much at my time in Astralis and I can't wait to put it in great use somewhere else,” he said. The player explained he had been missing playing and added he is now more motivated than ever to get back to the top and show what he is really capable of.

It's uncertain what team will accept Lucky at this moment because the other top Danish teams like Heroic or Copenhagen Flames already have dedicated AWPers. However, the prospects for international teams are still open for Lucky.
