00NATION Defeat BIG
Brazy Party 2023 has already started and 16 teams from all around the world are now duking it out for a chance to get a slice of the $330 000 prize pool. One team, 00NATION, has started the tournament particularly well after defeating the German squad BIG to earn the first win of the event, which will last until May 3.
Marcelo “coldzera” David’s men managed to score a convincing 2-0 victory over their German opponents on Mirage and Inferno, posting a 16-13 and a 16-10 result respectively. They owe a lot of their victory to 19-year-old Eduardo “dumau” Wolkmer, who spearheaded the team’s attempt on the fort map. The young player put up a 26/15 K/D, averaging to an impressive 1.48 rating to push his team to a close victory on Mirage.
Although BIG put up a strong resistance against the Brazilians in the first half, only narrowly losing the map, they could not replicate the same results in the second one, Inferno. 00NATION quickly gained the initiative and ran off with the results, scoring a dominating 10-5 round lead by the end of the first half. When the sides switched, the two teams traded a lot of rounds, but the Brazilians had already amassed a large advantage, which the German squad simply could not overcome. 00NATION closed off Inferno with a score of 16-10 and now proceed to the winners' match of Group B.
This Is a Reversal in the Brazilians’ Fortunes
00NATION’s victory over BIG is perhaps the start of the team’s redemption arc. The Brazilians welcome their victory at Brazy Party after they had a disastrous campaign through the BLAST Paris Major Americas RMR in early April. 00NATION went 0-2 to have their Major-qualifying dreams crushed. However, it seems that the Brazilian squad has learned a lot in the past weeks. The fact they defeated BIG, a team that is on the cusp of making their way into the top 10 following a 5-6th place showing at IEM Rio, is proof of that.
It’s highly likely that the absence of faveN also played a large part in BIG’s defeat. FaveN had to miss BIG’s participation at Brazy Party as he is celebrating his wedding. He is being substituted by David “prosus” Hesse from the BIG Academy roster, who scored a rating of 0.91, putting him in the middle among his teammates. Nevertheless, it’s his first time playing on the big stage, so he will soon have more chances to prove himself.
