Following a 2-1 victory over ECSTATIC, Copenhagen Flames qualify for the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown Europe, becoming the eighth and final team at the event.

Copenhagen Flames Defeat ECSTATIC

The grand final of the Pelaajat Nordic Masters Spring saw Copenhagen Flames and ECSTATIC duke it out for the opportunity to acquire the final spot for the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown Europe. The match saw both teams dominating each other on different maps, but the winner could be just one with Copenhagen Flames emerging victorious in the end.

Copenhagen Flames were one of the hottest teams in tier two at the end of last year. They won multiple online events and peaked in ranking at No. 24 in the world. However, this year the team seems to be struggling a bit, having failed to qualify for the BLAST Paris Major. 

This prompted Copenhagen Flames to sign Asger “farlig” Jensen as the team’s new AWP player last week. He replaced the 20-year-old Romanian player Iulian “⁠regali⁠” Harjău but it took a few matches for the Dane to synchronize with the rest of the squad. The victory against ECSTATIC serves as proof that farlig has probably already integrated well with the rest of Copenhagen Flames’ players. 

While CF has been readjusting after its roster shuffle, ECSTATIC were showing some impressive results in the early days of their current core, as well as also performing well last year. Speaking of which, the team made it to the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown and IEM Road to Rio RMR last year. This helped the team rise to No. 38 in the world and they began 2023 with a decent start.

However, ECSTATIC’s results have been more mixed this year with the team’s results dropping off significantly, prompting them to undergo two changes. Most recently ECSTATIC signed Magnus “⁠Nodios⁠” Olsen and they have been steadily climbing the world rankings since. The team hopes to continue on this trajectory despite its recent loss to Copenhagen Flames.

Speaking of the loss, it was not like ECSTATIC was a pushover. They might have started Overpass on a bad leg, suffering a 6-16 defeat from CF, but the team regained the initiative by securing Overpass with a comfortable 6-round lead and stretched the match to a decider on Vertigo. ECSTATIC chose this map because they had previously beaten their fellow Danes on the map 16-5 in the group stage. Unfortunately, ECSTATIC were not able to repeat the feat and narrowly lost 16-12, with Copenhagen Flames taking the last spot for the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown Europe.
