Xbox Integrates Twitch, Adds Cloud Streaming to Older Consoles

in Consoles
October 26, 2021
  • The latest Xbox Insider update introduces an easier way to stream on Twitch
  • Cloud Streaming comes to Xbox One
  • The update addresses multiple issues and bugs

The next installment of the Xbox Update Preview is out for Xbox Insiders to test. It includes features that facilitate streaming to Twitch directly from Xbox consoles.

New Streaming Features Introduced to Xbox

Earlier this year Microsoft announced big changes for the Xbox series, including PC Cloud Streaming for Xbox Game Pass Users, which is now added as a beta to Xbox One, giving users of older consoles access to the latest games. Along with this feature, since October 25, Xbox Insiders have been able to test the console’s new streaming features.

Up until now, users of the Xbox X or S series had to download the Twitch app and run through a series of steps, if they wanted to stream. This is quite an annoying process.

With the latest changes, users can more easily stream directly to Twitch. The Redmond tech company introduced Console Live Streaming, making it easy for people to start a stream. One simply needs to navigate the Capture and Share tab and choose Live streaming. After that, a user must link their Twitch account via a mobile device or console settings and finally press the Go Live now button to start the stream.

Streamers can now also switch between resolutions and bitrates, ranging from 360p at 500kbps to 1080p at 6500kbps. Additionally, Microsoft supports USB webcams, with most models working well as streaming cameras. It is important to note that the new feature streams only gameplay, so users can navigate to other apps, while the viewers see a pause screen.

Fixing Bugs and Issues

The update also addressed some previous problems, which include, but are not limited to fixes regarding the reflection of local languages, fixes on the Blu-ray playback, streaming overlay not showing and linking accounts via a mobile device, various issues with controllers losing synchronization or straight up disconnecting. More detailed information on bug fixes can be found on Xbox Insider’s official page.

Xbox had a similar streaming feature like the one launched now, called Snap. It, however, was removed in 2017 from the dashboard. Up until now, streamers could only use the dedicated Twitch app, which was a bit clunky to use.

It is expected new Twitch integration to be widely released in the coming months, after thorough tests.
