- Microsoft has revealed what’s new in the next Xbox App update
- Fans will get control over where to save their games on top of receiving a file repair function
- Additionally, download speeds will improve across the board
Megan Spurr and Jason Beaumont have revealed what quality-of-life changes are coming to the next update of Microsoft’s Xbox Game App.
Fans Will Have More Control Over Their Files
Microsoft continues working to make its Windows game store a worthy platform on the gaming market. The tech company will be implementing some of the quality-of-life features that some of its competitors like Steam are popular for.
In the official announcement video, Xbox Game Pass community lead Megan Spurr spoke about the new “foundational updates” with Xbox partner director of experiences Jason Beaumont.
The main change in question is that following the next update of the Xbox App, users will be able to freely choose in which folder they wish to put their downloaded games. Although this might seem trivial to the rank and file player, it is a great convenience to those who simply want a higher level of management over their virtual memory.
The aforementioned change will be complemented by another one that will let people easily access and browse their local files through the Xbox App. This will open the floodgates to modders who wish to add an additional level of personalization to their titles.
Furthermore, users will have the ability to quickly choose a game and perform a repair function that checks the integrity of local files and restores any issues – something Steam has had for years now.
The new features are scheduled to launch on December 8 but Xbox Insiders members will be able to access them earlier.
Cloud Gaming Will Become More Accessible
Additionally, Beaumont mentioned that users will notice that download speeds have improved, meaning that gamers will be able to install or update their titles faster so they can get to playing quicker.
However, for those who do not wish to download games either because they don’t have enough space on their drives or because their PC is not strong enough to run certain games, the cloud gaming option will be a good alternative.
Xbox’ cloud gaming features have been in the works for quite a while now. They allow people to freely run Xbox console games on the cloud. That way people with older machines or those who don’t own an Xbox console can still experience the full joy of Xbox gaming.
People who wish to explore this option will have a whole library full of both AAA and indie titles just by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass.
