  • The North American team defeated the European one 2-0
  • Both maps played stretched to overtime and ended with a 16-13 score
  • Complexity’s next opponents are BetBoom, whom they will face on Friday

Despite letting Monte take the early lead on both maps played, Complexity came back every time, resulting in the North Americans eliminating the Europeans from IEM Sydney and qualifying for the event’s playoffs.

Complexity Defeat Monte

IEM Sydney already has a full complement of teams that will participate in its playoffs. The last participant to secure a spot at the event’s final stage was Complexity, who through a composed playstyle managed to defeat Monte and earned the right to play in the playoffs.

The North American organization made it through the lower bracket unscathed and faced Monte once again, whom Complexity had already beaten on Anubis in the opening round of the tournament. However, this time, the match did not reach the map, instead being played on Overpass and Ancient, both of which stretched to overtime.

Speaking of the match, Complexity had an unstable start on Overpass but managed to find their way to five attacking rounds. This was enough to keep the competitive edge going and as the team traded rounds, soon they found themselves in overtime. It was then that Complexity made a final push when they saw Monte fail to put in a single attacking round. The final blow was dealt by Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and Johnny “JT” Theodosiou who won a 2vs5 situation to secure a 16-13 scoreline on the first map.

Ancient unraveled similarly with Monte quickly gaining the upper hand with a 5-1 lead. However, Complexity woke up once again and started putting rounds on the scoreboard to diminish the deficit which stood at 5-7 at the end of the first half. When the sides switched, Monte once again took the initiative but were later hampered by Complexity who slowly but surely equalized the score by round 24. The North American team once again forced an overtime in which Monte could not respond, leaving Complexity to finish the map with another 16-13 and take the match 2-0.

Complexity now go into the IEM Sydney’s playoffs with their heads up high. Matches are starting on October 20, Friday, where Complexity will go up against BetBoom, who were recently defeated by MOUZ but still managed to earn a spot in the event’s playoffs, proving they will be a formidable opponent.

Ricky “floppy” Kemery’s performance in Complexity’s match against Momnte should also be noted. The 23-year-old player topped his team’s scoreboard with a 1.35 rating and had a 100 ADR, making up for the slow start he had in IEM Sydney. We will see if he can repeat this feat in the upcoming matches.
